I was a major Chris Klieman doubter at the time of hiring. I thought he was only continuing his success at NDSU off the laurels and recruiting of Craig Bohl. And I figured Kansas State is not a job that you can just rest on reputation and coast.

What a terrific job quietly making it work at a place where only one other man could. Lots of potential ahead to be a leader in the new look Big XII.

After seeing other coaches struggle to replace legends at big name schools by losing the big ones, I no longer believe that success at a blue blood can be taken for granted.

Duggan has to be the Heisman winner now, regardless of how OT goes.

Duggan is a dog and TCU’s body of work means they’re in CFP regardless however Michigan has to be licking their lips at how they’d dominate TCU in the trenches. The 3-3-5 gave up 193 yards (and counting) today on the ground despite KSU’s starting RB going down on his second carry of the game, Michigan will feast if they play each other.

Probably going to be TCU vs Georgia and Ohio State vs Michigan in the playoff (though some are wondering if TCU will be #3 to avoid the Ohio State vs Michigan rematch. I actually would like those matchups, TCU vs Georgia is a rematch from the 2016 liberty bowl (lol) and shows how far both have come since. Ohio State vs Michigan rematch would be entertaining for obvious reasons.

Imagine if Ohio State lost to Michigan two times in one season?

lol, really sad how the haters are going to be 'told you so' on TCU because they lost to a top 10 team in an instant classic conference championship game in the highest rated conference (marginally better than the SEC and substantially better than the Big Ten) whose reputation suffered from history and depth of quality teams taking multiple losses.

Fortunately, they lost closely enough to still surely be in the CFP - and ahead of Ohio at that.

Michigan got ridiculously lucky against Ohio. We may finally have a competitive semifinal. And Michigan is probably my favorite of the four left standing.

Dereich is a perfect 5-0 so far, followed by three people at 4-1.

Nate Silver's updated playoff odds:

TCU 54%
Ohio 45%
Kansas State 39%
Utah 24%
Clemson 22%
Alabama 15%
Tennessee 6%
LSU 5%

Got to be sweating like a dog over this latest iteration of probabilities for the opinions of the college football cabal based on brand value.

Think you're going to need to see Michigan lose by 30 to Purdue to see any of this.

ESPN's predictor, which makes you pick the 5 power conference champions, gives these odds with picks of Clemson, Georgia, and Michigan in addition to KSU and Utah:

Georgia >99
Michigan >99
TCU 87
Ohio State 82
Alabama 23

I think these are more realistic than 538's.

This is the most embarrassing thing Nate Silver has ever put out. Kansas State is 0% chance to make it, period. So are Utah, Clemson, and everyone except Alabama and Tennessee, and both of those are still too high.

"Ohio" (State) is 100%, not 45%.

If I had to guess playoff probabilities:

Georgia: >99%
Michigan: 99%
Ohio State: 95%
TCU: 75%
Alabama: 30%
The Field: 1%

I expect TCU to get in, but if the committee went with Alabama, it would cause issues in the NY6:

Playoff: Georgia, Michigan, Ohio State, Alabama/TCU
Rose: Penn State vs. Utah (either way)
Sugar: Kansas State vs. Alabama or Tennessee (if Bama got in)
Orange: Clemson/UNC vs. Tennessee or [BLANK]
Cotton: Tulane/UCF vs. USC or TCU (if they were left out)

The issue is that the Orange Bowl contractually couldn't choose USC.  They have to pick a school from the SEC, Big Ten, or Notre Dame.  All reasonable candidates from those conferences (assuming no conference championship upsets) are already in NY6 bowls.  That would mean that USC would probably get snubbed for the other USC (South Carolina, that is).  The issue is that two of the three NY6 bowls with no conference tie-ins are hosting semifinals this year.  That makes the rest of the lineup much more rigid.

I'll say

100% Georgia
100% Michigan
99% Ohio State
96% TCU
4% Alabama
1% Tennessee
literally 0% anyone else

Couldn't the Orange Bowl just pick Notre Dame instead (presumably they will be ranked roughly near, if not ahead of South Carolina in the final rankings)?

Jesus tittyphucking Christ people Bama is not getting in TCU has 2 more wins, one less loss, beat the entire Big 12 including Kansas state in their round-robin conference schedule not to mention beat Bama’s best win (Texas) by more than they did, facing Texas’s starting QB while Bama faced their backup, AND without the refs bailing them out.

This looks like a good hire. Golesh even has experience coaching in Florida, having previously served as co-Offensive Coordinator/Tight Ends coach at UCF in 2020.

However, most of his coaching experience is in the Midwest, and it's interesting that Cincinnati, for example didn't move to hire him, or that he wasn't in any real contention for the opening at Wisconsin, as he would have been a fit there.

WEEK 14 RESULTS

Dereich won the weekend with a very impressive 10-1, missing only Fresno State over Boise State.  Four people were 9-2.  Full results:

10 Dereich
9 Donerail, ExtremeR, Illiniwek, Terry
8 GeorgiaModerate
7 Grumps
6 JGibson
5 NY Express

There were three unanimous picks, all correct:

Buffalo-Akron
Michigan-Purdue
Clemson-North Carolina

And two games with a single dissenter (the dissenter was wrong in both):

UTSA-North Texas
Georgia-LSU

Illiniwek expanded his overall lead to five games, a strong but not necessarily insurmountable advantage.  Year to date (334 games):

219 Illiniwek
214 GeorgiaModerate
212 Dereich
211 ExtremeRepublican
209 Terry

Multiple NFL Teams reportedly eyeing Michigan Head Coach Jim Harbaugh.

If Harbaugh leaves Michigan (I don't think he will), here are my guesses as to who will be the next head coach for the Wolverines (I did this last year too).

Ole Miss Head Coach Lane Kiffin
Kansas State Head Coach Chris Klieman
Florida State Head Coach Mike Norvell
UCLA Head Coach Chip Kelly
Arizona Cardinals Head Coach Kliff Kingsbury
Illinois Head Coach Brett Bielema

Given how Mullen's tenure at Florida ended, I don't think he'd do particularly well at Michigan.
