This is what those people celebrating the end of Roe v. Wade wanted! This is the culmination of the Republican project.

The ironic thing is this was a top national news story yet the criminal act is supposedly failure to report. I suppose if turning on the TV doesn't count.

The people who gleefully denied that this had ever happened so they could avoid confronting the consequences of their political beliefs want an excuse for not believing it, so they’ll blame the doctor.

Facts matter.  You don't "provide consent" to have a baby, do you?

Abortion is a medical procedure that carries certain risks like any other.  The procedure is very medically invasive compared to the type of care a healthy 10-year old would typically be receiving.  Making sure the adults charged with affecting this decision are acting in the best interest of the child is an appropriate role for the state to play.

FWIW, I also believe this cuts in the opposite direction.  It would be acceptable for courts to order minor children receive medically induced abortions in cases where it is deemed in their best interest but the parents/legal guardians would not consent to the procedure.   

You know what else carries risks? Childbirth. For a ten-year-old girl. Why don’t you focus on that instead of pathetically trying to salvage what’s left of your dignity?

And the thing is we all knew this was going to happen! This is the natural consequence of the restrictive abortion laws Republicans support.

But never fear, next week a nine-year-old will be raped and impregnated in Kentucky and the Kentucky AG will force her to give birth, and Republicans will be back to tell us how it's all fake, but even if it's not fake, it's totally ok and justifiable, and also whatabout Kavanaugh

And then in November a bunch of people who claim to be pro-choice and left-of-center will decide not to vote Democratic to "punish the Democrats for not doing enough to prevent this." And after they cause Biden to accomplish less in 2023-24, they'll stay home in November 2024, and starting in 2025 we'll get these abortion bans nationwide.

But hey, some selfish dickheads got to feel some smug satisfaction in the ballot box, so I guess it's all good.
