Known from the first two Godfather movies, and maybe 100 other films.

The instant I saw the headline in the Washington Post, it was like a physical blow.  What an incredible performance as Sonny Corleone!  He made that character a living, breathing human being in a way very few actors have ever done with their characters.

The Godfather (the first one) is my favorite movie of all time.  It's poignant to think back on the 50th anniversary this past March 24, knowing he would die just a few months later.

To my sister he is the dad from 'Elf.'

I'll always remember him the most from 'Misery.'

But it's a shame. He was a great actor with a remarkable career.
