On abortion, Tilts makes a good point about UK law. Based on that, I wonder if many other countries have a difference between their de facto and de jure position on abortion.

The situation Tilts describes is pretty much how it works in Japan too. Not in Israel, though, which apparently does actually deny abortion requests now and then.

If we're going purely by de jure statutes, shouldn't Italy also be colored green?

That has nothing to do with Islam, which is why I'm confused.

It does though, the Islamic position on abortion is that it is allowed for legitimate reasons such as rape or fetal impairment. After 120 days ensoulment happens and then abortion is entirely haram unless it's to protect the life of the mother.

It's a different debate of course to legislate or not to legislate morality, and I'd much rather live in a fully pro-choice state than a fully pro-life state, but there needs to be moderation between the two extremes.
