50 state sweep.

Colorado was pretty Republican, and Gary Hart had vague policies, focusing on platitudes about newness and youth "Where's the beef?"

Hart didn't even meet Donna Rice until 1986.

Lee Hart remained married to Gary Hart from 1958 until her death in 1921 (at age 85).  They had announced a number of separations during their marriage, and, at one point (before the scandal) seemed headed for divorce.  But she stayed with him until death.

I voted for Gary Hart in 1984 in the primary after seeing Mondale become a pitiful panderer.  I voted for Mondale in 1984, but it was without enthusiasm, and with the belief that another candidate would have allowed the Democratic Party to suffer another 49 state blowout.  I don't know what kind of President Hart would have become.  Had he been the nominee in 1984 he'd have lost badly, but he may have won MA, RI, HI, and POSSIBLY NY.  He would have done better in the popular vote than Mondale, however, and he wouldn't have been seen as having run the awful campaign Mondale ran.
