My friend worked for him for a bit, he said he's sort of an arrogant ass.

His voting record is quite good, but is record of doing stuff is quite awful (my friend admits this).

It was because of him, Cantwell, Stabenow, Dayton & Carnahan) that the Dems were able to eventually win control of the Senate in 2001.

People only care about Presidential races in this country, so no one remembers that the Democrats won the 2000 Congressional Election.
