RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF CULTURAL APPROPRIATION

Whereas, the Southern Region is rich in cultural diversity, and has been since the English settled at Jamestown in 1607; and

Whereas, the sharing and melding of various cultures can often lead to a harmonious syncretization that produces innovative new products and greater cohesion between diverse groups; and

Whereas, this cultural appropriation is a positive good for society; and

Whereas, despite our differences, this cultural appropriation has led to a beautiful southern culture ensuring that the people of the Southern Region are unified in their love and passion of the South, and their loyalty thereto, demonstrating that there are no white southerners or black southerners, no straight southerners or gay southerners, no hyphenated southerners, only 100% Southerners by the grace of God;

Now therefore be it resolved that the Southern Region hereby endorses cultural appropriation and encourages its residents to spread the best aspects of Southern culture to other cultures and appropriate the best aspects of other cultures into Southern culture to benefit all peoples;

Be it further resolved that no identity group, race, or nationality collectively owns good ideas be they inventions, foods, clothing styles, hairstyles, jewelry designs, or other aspects of culture;

Be it finally resolved that any person claiming to speak on behalf of an identity group, race, or nationality in an effort to shame or discourage cultural appropriation or segregate culture and cultural expression from persons of other identity groups, races, or nationalities be ignored.

This resolution shall take effect immediately.
