This'd be a nice matchup because the campaign wouldn't be too mudslingy.

At this point I think it will be tough for the GOP to pick up New Hampshire.  other than that your map is pretty much dead on.  CO would be a real tight one, which Obama could take (McCain might be the only Republican who could win CO at this point, out of those with a realstic shot at the GOP nomination

That would be quite the battle. I think Obama might edge him out thanks to the fact that he has a non-insane position on Iraq (plus a great VP pick like Warner wouldn't hurt.)

Personally, I think McCain is overrated.  He's too hawkish on the war and he wuv's Dubya too much.

I fear Giuliani much, much more.

A war hawk President in Wartime is a bad thing? What the hell is wrong with some people?

64% favor removing "almost all U.S. troops" from Iraq by 2008

I concur. McCain is overrated. If (big if, I know) the 2008 Democratic Strategists are actually competent, they'll hit McCain hard on Iraq and his twenty year senate voting record.

McCain missed out big time in 2000, when he definately could've won. I think by now, John McCain is no longer a maverick, and has formed to close a public alliance with Bush to get elected now.

I respect McCain for the great service he's provided, but I think Barack Obama would win.

South Park Conservative, I am afraid you have spoken too soon. But then again, this thread was created in December 2006 so that does explain a lot.

I voted before I realized the age of this thing. I thought it was a what-if. The race would have been closer but given Obama's final margin it's hard to see VP-changes changing the outcome.
