Too bad Goldie's not around to tell us the Republicans still have a chance at beating Levin.
obviously the people in michigan dont mind having an economy that is stuck in the toilet. why else would they keep re-electing the same awful people?
Your ignorance regarding the reasons behind Michigan's terrible economy is all too common. To make it short for you, the blame lies at the federal level, if anywhere, not witht the local politicians. When your economy is hugely based upon auto-manufacturing, deals like NAFTA and CAFTA which allow companies to pay someone in Mexico 50 cents/hr as opposed to $30/hr in Michigan do a lot of harm.
Agreed on where the blame should largely lie. Yes, unions definitely have their bad points. I don't think anyone is arguing that they are perfect. However, I think a lot of people forget just how truly awful working conditions were in this country before unions came along, and people are also kidding themselves if they think the situation would have improved to any large degree if unions had never existed. They never would have been created in the first place if it wasn't for the brutal situations employees were in. They were created to rein in the excesses of corporate abuse and are still necessary to do that to this day. The economy would be a lot worse overall without them.
