Gore / Gore -- McCain's age is the biggest factor.

I think given the choice, McCain's age will be a deciding factor.

Gore/Gore

In 2000, McCain would've beaten him.

McCain's extremism on Iraq throws the election to Gore.  Not that he'll run.

Gore/Gore. McCain would have won had they faced each other in 2000, but McCain's age will be a factor now,  as will his support of the Iraq War. Gore is also a much better public speaker now, and many people, even those who voted against him and (perhaps especially) those who voted for Nader now believe the country would be a better place if he had won. I hope Gore runs, but I kind of doubt he will.

McCain: 342
Gore: 196

Gore 2000 was a strong candidate, Gore 2008 is an entirely different person. It's hard to imagine now that Al Gore was nearly President of the United States.

I highly doubt in this if Gore were to run for President in 2008, that he would be able to pick up Tennesse, and keep gain Iowa and New Mexico again.

I liked Al Gore, I supported him in 2000, but he isn't the same man. He's a bit looney now.

Gore would win. If Obama helps increase black voter turnout we could have a few suprises.

We'd have some "almost" surprises. Call me crazy, but if black turnout really does increase ten fold or more, MS could actually be close. Harry, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the black population 45% of the state.

My prediction:

269-269. I'm not getting my hopes up and then being greatly disappointed, especially after the GOP did worse than I thought they would this year

So McCain takes Maine, which voted for the Democrats by nine percentage points in 2004 (12 in 2000 if you add Nader's vote to Gore's), but does not take Oregon, a state that voted for Kerry by 4 in 2004?

You horribly overestimating the GOP's chances in the northeast. They'd be lucky to win New Hampshire at most.

Funny you mention it. I had Oregon going for McCain, then decided to be generous to Gore.

The fact of the matter is, Gore lost the 2000 election to Bush very closely. Had he been against McCain, he would have lost it probably with a 300 EV McCain win.

Since 2000, he has been seen as:

2000-2001: A sore loser
2001-2002: A bearded man
2002-2003: Out of news
2003-2004: HE PLAYED ON OUR FEARSSSSS!
2004-2005: Dean '04!
2005-PRESENT: Wacky enviornment

How the hell does he come back from a complete meltdown?

I generally agree with your map, but why would McCain do better in Utah than his home-state of Arizona?

No, according to the Census Bureau blacks currently make up 36.8% of Mississippi's population. While it does have the highest percentage of black people in America they are nowhere near 45% of the population.

Al Gore is no longer seen as a moderate, but as a crazy left-wing activist.  McCain is seen as a voice of reason and this election isn't close (the better question is whether anyone can beat John McCain and the answer is no)

McCain even squeaks by in CA and wins w/over 400, but w/Tancredo included:

Much closer 279-259

Gore wins 273 to 265 with decent popular vote victory thanks to Obama.

So why are so many convinced of a Gore win? Sure he can run on "being right" about Bush but let's remember this guys drastic turn to the left. McCain would definetley keep the GOP while successfully attracting moderate voters. Obama's star power would bring a bit to Gore but 2008 will prove how overrated the Illinois Senator really is.

I didn't fool with the percentages, just the states. But Utah would always be a Republican candidate's best state. McCain would win AZ 66-34 and UT 72-26 like Bush did

I would vote for Gore but McCain would totally blow him away (especially with Rudy on the ticket).
