Given that under my watch the recent hearing for Secretary of External Affairs descended into chaos, for which I apologise, I feel I have no alternative but to tender my resignation as President Pro Tempore

However, I'm happy to continue in this role until such time as a new President Pro Tempore is elected tosucceed me

In hindsight, I feel I should have tendered my resignation as soon as I took ill and was, largely, absent from the Senate

I would strongly urge you to reconsider this resignation.

You have done a fine job as PPT, and I, and I'm sure my Senate colleagues, don't blame you for the conduct of the hughento hearing.

May I thank Smiley all those who have urged me to reconsider my resignation

I'm retiring to Albany, Georgia over night. I need to reconsider one or two things Smiley and my family are as good as any one I can think of to seek counsel. I'll be making a statement regarding this matter in the morning

I'll also be contacting all senators personally

Despite the personal PM I will be recieving later, I would like to say publicly that you have done your job with an amazing precision. You are surely the best example of how a PPT should act. WIth that, I urge you to hold this position, but I will understand if you decide otherwise.
