Good news for you Harry:

http://politicalinsider.com/2006/11/mabus_musgrove_moore_for_mississippi_democrats_in_07_08.html

To summarize, potential '07 Democratic candidates for Governor and LG in MS are stepping aside for an expected ticket of former Governors Ronnie Musgrove and Ray Mabus, which would be a powerhouse ticket.

On top of that, Thad Cochran is increasingly expected to retire now that Republicans are in the minority and b/c he is quite old, paving the way for former AG Mike Moore to run for Senate in '08. If Cochran dosen't retire, this race would be highly competitive, and if he does Moore is expected to handily defeat Chip Pickering, who would most likely be the republican nominee.

Personally I think the article is a tad bit optimistic regarding the Democrats' actual chances of winning each of these races, but these three candidates would undoubtedly be the strongest possible candidates the Democrats could hope to field.

So Musgrove wants to get beaten again?  Good, that will be fun.

It sounds like a strong ticket and a Moore vs. Pickering race certainly would be interesting.  I really like the idea of a Senator Mike Moore, as well as Democrat representing Mississippi in the U.S. Senate.

Cochran's retirement and Mike Moore stepping in is plausible, but the rest of the article is the ultimate in hackery.  Are Ray Mabus and Ronnie Musgrove actually considering returning to the governor's mansion, or is he just making this up to support the theme of the article?  They're going to run on the same ticket?  Isn't that a little odd?

Even if they do run on the same ticket, Haley Barbour is very popular.  Why would he lose to two former governors who lost their reelection bids?

Then he says that if Mississippi goes well for the Democrats in the next few years, then it means Georgia and Texas will follow suit.  Texas.  Come on.

Yeh. I found that part to be pretty stupid myself. Democrats are making gains in every area of the country but the South. There's no reason to believe we're about to take back Georgia or Texas, no matter what happens in Mississippi.
