It feels like almost every governor running for reelection, Democratic and even more so Republican, gets at least one halfway serious primary challenger this time around. Is this indeed the case or just a wrong assumption? I guess that's a sign of increasing polarization within the parties as well, as every incumbent not passing a purity test gets a challenger.

Mike DeWine, Greg Abbott, Kay Ivey, Brian Kemp, Kathy Hochul and Dan McKee are just a few that immediately come to mind.

On the Republican side, it has a lot to do with governors issuing covid restrictions in 2020. That's been fuel for a lot of semi-serious primary challenges (not Georgia, but many of the others).

And also recognition of President Biden's victory as valid, too.
