For me it was the 2000 (general) Presidential election. I supported Gore.

The 2007 PD primaries, but those probably should not count (and I don't remember which candidate I supported if any either way). In terms of general elections, the first I remember is the 2008 one here and I certainly rooted for PD.

I was in first grade in 2004. Voted for Gore in my school's mock election because my parents hated Bush. Wise move in retrospect, that's one of only a handful of elections in which I would have voted for the Democrat since the emergence of the Republican Party.

2012, Obama. I half-watched the debate with my parents for a school assignment (high school freshman) and thought that what Obama was saying made sense so I thought he should win.

Ford/Carter is the first I paid attention to and the first I supported was the great Ronald Reagan over Jimma.

Depends what you mean by this question. In 2004 I voted for W Bush in my 2nd grade mock election class cause I thought he was cool and I thought presidents should be supported but really didn’t know what was going on at all and didn’t even know who John Kerry was till we voted in the mock election .

2008 I supported Obama but again I didn’t really follow any of the issues in the election and just thought Obama was cool. Unlike 2004 I did know who McCain was though

2012 was the first election I actually followed and I supported Romney

First one I remember was 2000, though I was in elementary school and not politically active. The first one I was actually actively following was 2008: I supported Romney in the primary, McCain in the general up until Palin revealed how incompetent and unqualified she was, then I supported Obama.

The first election I remember is 2016. Very vaguely remember being for Clinton because my parents were but it was pretty much meaningless and I didn't have any real clue about politics. The first elections I had a decent awareness of were the 2019 gubernatorials. I was very happy when Beshear toppled Bevin in KY. Even at this stage, however, my understanding of politics was rather limited. By the 2020 presidential race, I had a reasonable awareness of politics and was, you guessed it, for Biden. In the primay I was for Buttigieg then Biden (my father voted for Bloomberg in the primary though). I remember emailing my classmates after Buttigieg dropped out and revelling at Biden's wins in some primaries and calling him the most electable candidate. LOL. Clearly, I still had a limited understanding of politics, though it had certainly increased since the 2019 gubernatorials. In the 2020 GE, I knew more about politics and was for Biden. In the 2021 elections, I was for McAuliffe and Murphy, of course. You all know that (as well as my unreasonably hawkish 'predictions'). 2022 will be the first midterm elections I'm properly aware of (know nothing about 2010 and 2014 and all I remember of 2018 is seeing some election updates on TV without really comprehending).

First election as a voter:

2004.  Kerry and the Democratic ticket, oddly enough because I believed in gay marriage (and yet none of the Democrats I voted for believed in it, at least not publicly.)

I thought Kerry was a wimp and a weakling who ran an atrocious campaign.

First election I remember going way back:

1992.  If I could have voted, it would have probably been for Perot.  I liked that it was 3 people running and on the debate stage, made the election more interesting.

1996: Dole (Forbes in the primary).  If I had been just a few years older, I probably would have backed Clinton.

I remember going with my parents to the polling station in 2008, but I obviously didn't know much since I was, you know, not even two.

The first election I remember in any sense of who is running was probably 2012, where I knew who each candidate was (if only barely in the sense that Obama was the 'better candidate' and Romney was the 'bad candidate'*) and why Dianne Feinstein sucks.

The first one I actually followed closely was the 2015 cycle. This was when I discovered Atlas, actually (and promptly forgot about it for three years). 2016 was the first time I studied the platforms and the primary candidates, if only to a superficial level (e.g. Kasich=Moderate, Cruz=Conservative, Trump=Insane). 2018 was when I finally got to levels of using DRA and staying up all night to watch elections, and 2021 was the first time I Blogged™ it.

*=Not my actual opinion now, of course, although I still admire Obama as a person.

2006/2007 somewhere likely and i supported LDD (a libertarian populist party) because I liked the colour. They helped in the decline of the far-right at the time tho and it's halt of their rise.

I became only left wing as an adult really. I had no real political beliefs as a kid. The first issue i cared about was climate change due to my interest in weather & climate as a teenager tho.

For me it was the 2000 (general) Presidential election. I supported Gore.

Way back in 1988.  I was still a ways from being voting age, but I supported George HW Bush.  Yep, I'm old...LOL! Wink

The first presidential election that I was able to vote in was the 2000 race (I turned 16 in 1997).

I intended to vote for George W Bush...but I believe I accidentally voted for Pat Buchanan.  Don't ask me how THAT happened, LOL.
