What is the recipe for a Republican to win Orange County, CA? What are the platforms they need to run on? It seems like it’s a county that should be more favorable to the GOP but it’s a pretty liberal county.

OC is not that liberal. It may be the most conservative place of its population density or greater in the entire US.

To answer your question, just nominate any one other than Trump on the top of the ticket. He’s a particularly fit and this is confirmed by OC GOP still outperforming down ballot. Someone more polished like DeSantis can easily win.

Choose someone not insane.

Someone with DeSantis's policies could win, but DeSantis himself carries too much baggage. I could see someone like Youngkin pulling it off.

What baggage? He’s never been involved in any scandals or law issues and doesn’t have a vulgar mouth like Trump

Run on education and the economy, appeal to Hispanics and Asians (not that hard, really, unless a guy like Trump is the GOP nominee)

This, I think that if Trump isn't nominated again some of the wealthier and more conservative suburban areas like OC and towns in Fairfield County, CT will swing back to the GOP, albeit by a somewhat narrower margin then pre-2016.

Well, the Disney thing might not help (since Anaheim), and he has a socially conservative record. DeSantis would probably win the election, but in order to do so he would need to appeal to the Trumpists. Dems are grossly incompetent at everything but even they could broadcast that.

Won’t and can’t happen unless they’re already winning the NPV.

The same way Democrats can win Luzerne County, PA.

1) An enormous landslide unlike anything we've seen this century.
-OR-
2) A complete and unexpected realignment.
-OR-
3) A time machine

The analysis that Republicans are going to get Romney levels of support in the suburbs if they pick someone other than Trump is about as sound as the analysis that Obama-Trump voters are going to come rushing back to the Democratic Party if Trump doesn't run.
