The fact that one billionaire leaving their party causes more pearls to be clutched and shrieks to be screamed out than when half the working class fled is just so... *chef's kiss*... apropos for the contemporary Democrat Party.  The brunch crowd is going to be so fired up on Sunday.
? I say good riddance.

You know, crazy idea here, but maybe the fact that one party is quite flawed and worthy of plenty of criticism doesn't mean that the other party is good or even any better? Maybe it's possible to hold both parties to some kind of standard? I know, I know, it's insane to think that maybe the enemy of your enemy isn't your BFF Purple heart, but then again, I'm just a crazy radical leftist socialist Marxist communist neoliberal elitist $hill living in a bubble, so what do I know?

Republicans are the default. Democrats earn your support when they're good and lose it when they're bad, and when they lose your support, you revert to the default.

The latest dogecoin tweet applies to you most of all as a total tribalist with no moral core, seeking to start fights with everybody.

Oh I start fights with people because I love fighting, not because I'm some wokescold who wants to punish people who disagree with me or force everyone to conform.  And I'm especially not trying to impress my "tribe."  Who is my tribe?  My ideology is very uncommon and its adherents are incredibly poorly-organized.  I wish I had a tribe to impress.  I wish people would go around bullying each other in the name of my ideology.  At least in that scenario there would be vocal people who share my ideology.

Instead it's all this woke crap that has literally no bearing on the real world.  It's just people scoring points on each other in some stupid fantasy game, and if you become terminally online and develop Twitter Brain, as Musk has done, then you start to think that's actually reflective of the real world.  I actually live in the real world and none of these stupid Twitter fights matter.

Also very weird to imply that I have no core.  I've been consistent in my beliefs from the day I joined this forum, even in situations where it puts me on the opposite side of the debate from my own party of my own candidate.

As Union Thug said, the Democrats shouldn't lose a wink of sleep over some snob like Musk voting Republican, it's the working class they should be worried about.

There are millions of voters right now who feel this way. Almost certainly, more than the vastly overrepresented R-->D in media, at this very moment. Musk is just a very rare type of billionaire, which makes it easy for Democrats to mock and dismiss this as some sort of class thing, but it's not. He actually represents more people in this country with this opinion than Joe Scarborough or Nicole Wallace. Maybe after November, there'll be some reflection? But we really didn't get any after last November when they lost a previously unthinkable state with a very generic politician. So who knows...

From personal experience I can tell you this is true. We just had a family friend visit us and he talked about how his views havent changed but its the Democrats who have gone far to the left and said how all of us will soon be Republicans.

There wouldn’t be a serious push for this even if it didn’t require an amendment - Musk is a bit too much of a tech bro for most of them. Today he started pining for a party “‘more moderate” than both factions and was courted by Andrew Yang. None of these dull, trite interactions are going to be helping Twitter’s share price, but they’re probably better for it than his usual antics.

It's almost as pathetic as all the good people of Virginia who watched the events of January 6, a few miles away, with appropriate shock and horror... but then a year later they read a PDF of Antiracist Baby and said "well, I don't want to be on that side of the culture war..."

I wonder how many people change what they  believed for 20, 30, or more years because of things that 90% of other people would consider ridiculous.

The solution for this is for left Twitter to just shut up. They have to know it's costing them votes and if these issues are truly so unimportant then there's no reason for them to keep talking about them.

From personal experience I can tell you this is true. We just had a family friend visit us and he talked about how his views havent changed but its the Democrats who have gone far to the left and said how all of us will soon be Republicans.

The issue isn't just that they're moving but they retroactively denounce anyone who doesn't immediately move with them at the exact same time. Like, you're a nazi if you're not saying Latinx or "abolish the police". The left used to have a comparatively big tent to the right but now they're both small tents which is why you have so many people feeling disenfranchised.

You are never going to convince everyone on Twitter that they owe things to the Democratic Party, or that their discourse affects the success of the Democratic Party. Even if you could, then you’d also convince Republicans, who’d just make “left-wing” socks.

The same applies to right-wingers on Twitter, of course. Political operatives complaining about Twitter know that it is impossible to solve this problem (if it even exists), so conveniently point to it to avoid scrutiny of their own failings.

The weird thing is that viewed from abroad there is this one party that is intent on banning abortion, censoring schools, attacking the principles of electoral democracy, forcing an incredible moral panic over LGBT rights. And yet the Democrats are apparently the extremists because um... because um... because um... loud people on twitter?

Even if you don’t like Musk(which is very understandable), there are millions of working class and middle class people who admire him than most of the media and businessmen

Quite frankly if the billionaire caste is slithering it’s way back to the reactionary right it’s a good sign for the future of the left

In general terms, yes - but I’d argue Musk is one of the billionaires they’d want to lose last.
‘Oh no, the union busting South African with a god complex has left us’

I think we’ll live

Why is South African relavent here ? He left at 18 and by many accounts was relatively racially progressive despite the era.

Looks like we now know why he became a Republican:

A SpaceX flight attendant said Elon Musk exposed himself and propositioned her for sex, documents show. The company paid $250,000 for her silence.

Quote
SpaceX, the aerospace firm founded by Elon Musk, the world's wealthiest man, paid a flight attendant $250,000 to settle a sexual misconduct claim against Musk in 2018, Insider has learned.

The attendant worked as a member of the cabin crew on a contract basis for SpaceX's corporate jet fleet. She accused Musk of exposing his erect penis to her, rubbing her leg without consent, and offering to buy her a horse in exchange for an erotic massage, according to interviews and documents obtained by Insider.

The incident, which took place in 2016, is alleged in a declaration signed by a friend of the attendant and prepared in support of her claim. The details in this story are drawn from the declaration as well as other documents, including email correspondence and other records shared with Insider by the friend.

For those who will be claiming that this is the "dirty tricks campaign" Musk predicted, I have this to say: the only reason for anyone to defend this is because they're a sexual predator themselves. (And any such defense should be considered a confession to such.)

Yup. It’s a party of, for, and by sex pests. Of course he’d feel at home there.

You have to be somewhat careful attacking him because I believe he is on the spectrum. Not that that excuses his stupid statements, but in his case there is a reason for why much of what he says comes off odd.

I'm autistic and this is quite possibly one of the most ignorant things anyone has ever posted here on the matter.

This isn't autistic behavior, it's typical of the spoiled class who benefitted from the suffering of others.

How can anyone take this guy seriously? I wonder whether he'll just say outlandish stuff to gain attention.

Never underestimate the media's desire to elevate the worst elements for ratings. They're the ones who turned Trump into a movement, remember.
