Macron is blaming TikTok, Snapchat and Video Games for the riots.

I never understand these videos.

The police have pulled you over and asked you to co-operate

1. Co-operate.

The police are asking you to get out of the car.

2. Get out of the car.

The police have a gun pointing at your head now demanding you turn the car off and get out.

3. Don't hit the accelerator.

The police have now shot you dead. This is more typical in America but it happens everywhere.

There are multiple decision points in this scenario. We had exactly the same situation recently in Perth. With the door open the driver hit the accelerator whilst the car was in reverse.

The Police Officer was trapped under the door then under the car and killed.

R I.P. Police Officer Anthony Woods

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-06-11/police-officer-constable-anthony-woods-dies-after-being-run-over/102467630

100%, Anthony should have shot the driver dead the second he hit the accelerator.

Why?

Because Perth would now have a Police Officer alive and a useless meth addict dead.

Instead, we have a useless meth addict left alive and a fine standing member of the community dead.

If you use your car as a weapon whilst under threat from the Police, don't be surprised by the outcome.

French will likely back repression over liberty.

Still Renaud an extremely popular French Rock Star from the dayz has a song which still perhaps has topical relevance.

We literally had this happen before, did the wave of rioting in the aftermath of the murder of George Floyd achieve anything in the US?

Why would the result be any different here ?

Good thing none of those were invented yet in 1789.

Sure.  But any long-term impact of these riots, however small or large, can only benefit Le Pen.

And are things likely to get better by then, or worse?

Starting to think France may need a spell of utterly disastrous FN rule to get it out of their system.

Who knows 🤷‍♂️. When the yellow jacket stuff happened there was a bunch of “oh man Le Pen is going to win the next election” takes here that didn’t age well

I honestly think that le Pen would win by over 20 points at least against someone like Mélenchon who does not clearly come out against these riots. Only a tiny minority can truly support this. Seeing all those videos of people stuck in their cars with children, of destroyed buildings, businesses, infrastructure, vehicles, most of which probably belonging to average Joe's just trying to get by. And just the general chaos...All that for what? The (unjustified) killing of a criminal.  This sucks.

Edit: So I've just read that some rioters have burned  a school ( a kindergarten),. Congrats dumbasses, you've just turned 80-90% of the public against you. Do people even care about the initial issue (police violence) at all?

How is this any worse than what labor rioters do? 15 years ago weren't labor rioters literally kidnapping bosses demanding not to be fired?

Yes frankly. It's a typical lumpenproletariat riot. Nothing New.

It’s funny seeing liberals call this a lumpen riot. There are a lot of regular people out there on the street, if anything it seems more upscale than the black demographic during the George Floyd protests.

I'm not talking about the strikes against the pension reform. But clearly the riots the past few days were clearly from very poor urban people

It’s not, it’s people who are way more sensitive to violent protests because of social media. Mainstream media has always been opposed to this stuff but nowadays they also give more attention to international protests like this in itger countries because of social media reach of this info.

The French have always done this stuff: strikes; burning cars on the street; etc etc so it’s nothing new even if the motivation behind always changes. This time is a racist murder of a French dude with North African ancestry, some time ago it was about lowering of purchase power, in the future it will be something entirely new… The French love to have reasons to hate on their leaders and destroy their country to the ground in the name of a cause that opens door for improvement, it’s in their DNA because of the revolution.

Who exactly are you and waltz into Atlas with barely over (100) posts with an R-VA avatar?

Are you looking like France in the late '50s / early'60s with Charles de Gaulle in power, where hundreds or more of French demonstrators died tossed over the bridges of Paris. demonstrating against the French Colonial domination of Algeria...?

Sorry dude--- you sound like an echo chamber within the beltway, likely 19-21 y.o, testing out various talking points within some obscure forum.

Please come back in a couple months while you work on your 100 or 200 level college courses, or maybe finish some sort of weird DC Intern scene.

All academic to you while meanwhile there are people like myself who actually know and sometimes have relatives in France.

Martial Law or Emergency Rule???   Totally Le Pen echo chamber

And by wrath of God the hillbilly GOP types on here mean arming police to the teeth in a massive public spending spree that amounts to a grift. It definitely works in the US in terms of public order right?

Rest assured, European tax payers spend enough money on Frontex for shiny new military style toys that are legit useless when push comes to shove. But Meloni and co encourage it for kayfabe purposes. And now police unions will hold Macron to ransom and ask for bigger guns, toys and whatnot.

To think people were trying to justify low approval ratings were a good thing… This is what happens when you have lots of passionate “dissent”.

Only 1/4 of France likes Macron. The other 1/4 is on the Le Pen camp and another 1/4 are leftists who dislikes him as well. And the rest are spread out all over the place, not falling in one exact camp but still not on Macron’s side.

Anyway, it’s France though so I expect nothing to come out of it. People will get it out of their systems and then move on.
