Can Will Smith still get arrested if Chris Rock refuses to press charges and the statute of limitations expires?

He could, but George Gascon won't press charges.

I don’t you go to jail for slapping someone, maybe a fine and that’s it

Okay, maybe Mike Johnson is a competent parliamentarian.

You can get booked and not actually go to jail. I was once almost booked on a violation with a $150 fine but the cop decided to let it go.

I’m shocked that the Los Angeles Police Department even cared enough about the slapping incident when there are multitudes of real crimes out there in the city itself.

The statute of limitations is a beautiful thing because you can’t get busted over a crime that may have not actually been committed years ago.

Hypothetically, he can get arrested if Rock does not press charges before the statute of limitations expires. Realistically, it's not a violent enough crime to go ahead with charges if the victim doesn't want that, so it won't happen. In either case, he cannot be arrested after the statute of limitations expires if he has not been charged yet.

No, Chris Rock refused to press charges and even if he did he would of been difficult for a jury to convict Smith he would of been out on bail anyways, some users think just because you get arrested you are sentence to jail, it doesn't work that way there is a trial if the guilty pleads innocent

Just like in GA the Crts are favorite to Trump they're all R, it is likely Trump may not serve jail time because an all white jury and R Crts are favorite to him

The statute of limitations for still caring about this event is two weeks, so probably not.

Wouldn't this be better in Off-Topic?  It really doesn't have anything to do with U.S. politics.
