In 2018 Manchin voted for Kavanaugh, was in a huge blue wave and was in an era of less polarization and yet he still won by 3%. He won't win in 2024.

Comedy gold

Quote
[A]nalysts currently consider the race to either be a tossup or leaning towards the Republican Party. Should Manchin not run, analysts believe the seat will be an easy Republican pickup.

Even if Manchin would be easy to beat, it still diverts resources to beat him. In 2014 SD, MT, and WV were autoflips due to them being open seats while Arkansas and Louisiana weren't although Rs enjoyed a big advantage.
Perhaps, but if Justice runs the GOP basically don't have to spend any resources at all.

No idea why Mooney is running to get clobbered by Justice. He's in a safe R seat. Well, at least Riley Moore will be an upgrade still.

And Mooney joins the rank of successful Republican 2022 Senate candidates Josh Mandel, Mo Brooks and David McCormick...

The Club for Growth is going to be absolutely annihilated in primaries this cycle.

Trump and the NRSC simultaneously opposed.
I have no idea why the C4G is spending in this race and not moving their resources to Montana.
Mooney will be annihilated by Justice more than Manchin will be. They're just throwing away their donor's money.

Went to the website on the signs to see what the big "gotcha" points are and it boils down to taking Covid seriously and opposing right to work. Wow, Mooney really is f--ked if that's all he's got.
Attacking your opponent for not being anti-union in... WV is really a strange thing to do.

What if Manchin ran as an Independent or No Labels for Senate? Would Dems field their own candidate? Would it notably boost Manchin’s final vote share? Could he be viable or is he too associated with Dems?
Manchin is a team player, he's not Sinema. Democrats would back him like they did McMullin, and he would still lose because he's unpopular going up against an extremely popular governor.

You know, I'm actually pissed that he's retiring. It means he undermined Biden's agenda for nothing. I would rather see him go down fighting after being such a contrarian.
I mean maybe he just stuck to his beliefs and he's ideologically moderate.
