Supersoulty,

Gore is a liar and his multiple political conversions prove that this man has ZERO core beliefs. At least Clinton believes in SOMETHING...he believes in himself! Gore believes in nothing, and he would see harm come to his own country just to lash out at Bush and the other forces he feel "wronged" him. Have you heard Clinton talk about the War in Iraq? He's actually rooting for us to win, unlike Gore. Plus he has stated that Bush was right to go to war and he would have as well.

I said all of this in my post, but in a different way.  I really don't think Gore is a bad person at the core, but he just never really figured out who he is.  He had a lot of potential, but he was told everyday of his life by his overbearing father that he was meant to be President, so he adopted the attitude that he was justified in doing what ever it took to get there.  The only reason he went to Veitnam was because his father didn't want to look bad.  He spent his whole life obsesed with pleasing his father.  I think that the "real" Al Gore is acctually nothing like the person we see on TV.

Supersoulty,

Come on man, you're falling into a liberal trap of blaming parents for the actions of the children. If you're going to do that, why not cut Clinton some slack because he never really had a Father, or Reagan who had to deal with a drunken Father who beat the sh*t out of him when he was a kid...

Make no mistake.  I don't excuse Gore's actions, but I can't help but to feel for the guy.

Supersoulty,

I used to be an idealist, then I went through four years of Left Wing indoctrination at the Princeton University Re-Education Center. Needless to say, I never broke...LOL

I read that too quickly -- I thought you wrote, "Zell Miller's speech would drive the panhandlers to vote."

But what bit of anti-American trash do we have here?

I would hope the Pugs viewing a home would recall why it's important to beat bin-Laden!  After all, isn't HE the enemy?  Or is it now other Americans who are the evil doers?

The whoring of "Ground Zero" by those who should have been sober, awake, and on duty back when bin-Laden was the "subject of discussion" in a PDB is disgusting enough; that they same freaks should present themselves as anything other than what they are is just bad taste and bad acting.  These, the posturing sluts and shamless hucksters of Flagmobilia, USA.

I disagree. The GOP convention should be in New York City to promote President Bush's crowning achievement as President...his handling of the days immediately after September 11th. The convention is a national event, not a regional event, and the people who attend are ALL party regulars, so the idea of Zell Miller or anyone else being able to "reach more Southerners" at a convention in Tampa is simply not accurate. And remember, I'm in Tampa, so I really, really wanted it here so I could attend myself.

Besides, if the convention is New York City, that means more of the wacko left wingers will show up outside and protest Bush, which translates to votes for Bush as middle of the road, undecided Americans HATE those left wing extremists. Every time the leftists hold a high profile "peace rally" in the months leading up to the war it increased the support for the War in Iraq among rank and file Americans.

Me too! I was praying it would have been here.

2000 GOP convention in Philly. That's what got me interested in politics.

As for 2004 convention, I think NYC is a pretty good place to have it but would have no problem with it down in Tampa. It would really help the GOP down in FL though we should carry the Sunshine state by enough votes. No need for 3 or 4 recounts this election!

Keystone Phil,

You're right, we will carry Florida this year...no need for a recount unless the Democrats organize a series of Prison Breaks on election day and let all of their Felonious Pals vote.

Jeb Bush restored the rights of some 50,000 ex-cons. I don't know if you read that but it was in the Lakeland Ledger.

Good Choices as main speakers for the Dems…

Gov. Jennifer Granholm (D-MI)

Rep.Harold Ford (but he spoke in 2000) so perhaps a fair well from John Breaux or Evan Bayh or perhaps Blanche Lincoln or even Jo Lieberman but Lincoln or Breaux would be best if not Ford but Ford would be very good.

Al Gore (D-TN), coz he really has to anyway, having been the nominee last time.

St,Rep.Barack Obama (D-IL) a damn good speaker and he could really be a hit.

Gov.Bill Richardson (D-NM), chairman of the convention and a successful Dem Governor and not a bad speaker could be a good introductory speaker.

I would say they should go in this order…

…Opening…

Gov Richardson – Opens Convention.

…First Full Day…

Rep Harold Ford –First Speech of the Day

Howard Dean – The “fire up the base” red meat speech (keep it sensible Howard Cheesy )

Al Gore – The Final” Fire up the base red meat” speech (keep ya hair on Al)

…Second Full Day…

Rep Dick Gephardt –A nice generic Democrat speech (a less exciting version of an Edwards stump speech, but doing what you need it to do), besides he has given a great deal of service to the Party.

Gov. Mark Warner – Giving Warner a chance to speech on a national event would be good also, he’s a moderate populist with a strong record and he’s from the south.

Gov Jennifer Granholm –Last Big Speech of the Day again a chance to show case a rising star of the Party.

…Third Full Day…

Barrack Obama – A Great speaker given the chance to begin the last full day of the convention and  WAKE THE DELEGATES UP!, he is a great speaker though Smiley

VP Speech – John Edwards, Two Americans, a speech on those timeless values all Democrats like to trumpet kinda like Kennedy’s speech at the convetion in 1980 “The Dream shall never die”.

Nominee Speech- John Kerry

:Convention closes:

Republicans

Who’s chairing the convention?

Zell Miller would be a great speaker to introduce Bush that would certainly help project the right image.

Schwarzenegger would also be a great Moderate Voice to highlight one of the days set of speeches.

Some one the fire up the base a little, perhaps Santorum or JEB Bush in fact “JEB” could be a good speaker full stop to lead on one of the days…but a speaking slot for Santorum would probably work with the base and someone would be need to do that.

Orrin Hatch would be a possibility for an “elder Senator” sorta thing Smiley

Some solider who’s been in Iraq and Afghanistan and is good speaker would be great for the GOP, shameless but great, if handled correctly Wink

But Remember for the GOP you need a Hispanic, a woman (Olympia Snowe, could be very good, perhaps a speech mentioning Reagan, she was in his cabinet after all).

Ben, you  brought up how the GOP needs an Hispanic...well if Mel Martinez is the Republican nominee for U.S. Senate from Florida (I'm hoping that McCollum wins that nomination, though) he would probably speak. Also, the Georgia Senate primary race includes a black conservative Republican named Herman Cain. If he gets the nomination there (which I hope he does) he is pretty Senator-elect since the Dems aren't putting up any serious candidates in November. So Cain would probably receive some speaking time, too. There are plenty other minority candidates running as Republicans. They might not all speak, but they'll be there, supporting the GOP and that is what matters most.

Also, what post did Snowe serve in during the Reagan administration?

Byrd won't win. It's either McCollum or Martinez. I want McCollum since he's the more conservative of the two.
