Stuff like this is why everyone hates cops these days and it's why I have no patience whatsoever for the Thin Blue Line crap. Cops are failing to keep Americans safe, and it adds insult to injury when they ignore dangerous criminals to harass people that are minding their own business like this.

True, but who will you rather take? Cops or Kyle Rittenhouse/George Zimmerman types? As the TikTok cops say, choose wisely.

Kyle Rittenhouse exercised much more restraint than the typical police officer does in that situation.

He tried to be the police when he wasn't and walked into a riot looking for trouble. I'd trust the police more than him despite the many issues that the police force has.

Doesn’t the Los Angeles Police Department have better things to do like combating the impressive amount of real crimes in their jurisdiction?

I guess this effectively makes them a black market taxi. It's illegal to run a taxi without a license, and this has been controversial because the number of licenses has always been limited and artificially low.

Uber and Lyft thus were at first seen as a loophole in some places or actually banned in others, but once it was clear they weren't going away most municipalities legalized them with regulation. But that regulation probably restricts them to only taking rides and fares via the app. If they take non-app rides, that's an illegal black market taxi service no different than if any random person decided to do this.

In addition to the laughable waste of resources, I highly doubt this is even a particularly widespread "problem." It's easier to hail a normal taxi than an Uber/Lyft anyway if you didn't want to use an app for whatever reason.

Do we know this is the cops idea and not one of the many LA politicos with a hate boner for gig workers?

Also good to see DrScholl acknowledge that what was happening in Kenosha was a riot and not a protest.

The medallion process was fundamentally broken and discriminatory to drivers from and serving in poorer, nonwhite communities. These drivers operating in the black market always existed and most taxi drivers had no problem with them given they mainly operated outside their “turf”. These drivers understood how to navigate their neighborhoods and hide money into any possible nook and cranny so they won’t get f•••ed in a robbery.

It is a clear reality that Uber and Lyft screwed over every single cab driver. Due to legal loopholes and lobbying, they illegally had an unfair advantage over drivers who put endless time and money into their vehicles, for worse service given millennials don’t know how to drive without a GPS. And yet, expectedly, their services got worse by getting more expensive and still not serving low-income nonwhite areas.

These ridesharing apps need to be nationalized and the government needs to help consolidate cab drivers into an orderly syndicate that serves all areas with ample insurance in case of theft or bodily injury.

The Dems need to pick one, because the police are giving themselves a bad name and people will start to take things in their own hands.
