Madison Cawthorn created a stir this week by alleging that Republican politicians host coke-fueled orgies, to which he claims to have been invited. Many Republican congressmen including Steve Womack have reacted negatively to these allegations, claiming that they are completely untrue.

I think all three of these are true:

1. There is very likely a lot of sex and drugs in DC political circles, and anywhere else where there's a concentration of money and power.

2. Unless Cawthorn names somes names, he's just saying this for attention, which seems to be the driving motivation behind his political career.

3. Cawthorn (among others) is in way over his head in Congress.

This is a great example of why Cawthorn isn't going to survive long in Congress. Weirdo gadfly types almost always get booted in the primary if they don't mellow out (see Steve King, Cynthia McKinney twice back in the day and other examples that everyone has forgotten about now.) It may not happen this year but once the NCGOP paints a target on his back he'll be gone in a couple cycles.
