Kern county is more populous but consistently casts about 100-150k fewer votes than SF.

Kern County is >50% Hispanic, with many of these people being undocumented migrant workers.

SF is only 15% Hispanic.

DT touched on the fact that are more illegal immigrants in Kern, but also SF is more educated and has a stronger "political culture" so to speak, which causes higher turnout in SF

Much larger proportions of Asian and Jewish residents; they vote. Also, the Hispanic population in San Francisco is more likely to be better educated. There ren't many illegal-alien farm workers among Hispanics in San Francisco.

Note also: demographics of Kern County are much closer to those of Oklahoma than to Massachusetts. A hint: the late country-music stars Merle Haggard and Buck Owens were from Kern Counry. Bakersfield may look close to Los Angeles on the map, but it is a center for the country-music culture. As polarized as America is, demographics are seemingly everything in Presidential politics.

Oklahoma also has a very low turnout rate.

SF has a reliable machine behind it, Kern County not so much.

Kern County is majority Hispanic, not sure what that has to do with Oklahoma.

Muh Orang Men Bad is a good voting boost for uber-liberal San Francisco. That and Kern has a lot of (low turnout) Hispanics. Maybe 2024 will have Trump winning Kern by double digits?

Kern County received a disproportionate amount of Okie settlement during the dust bowl. The non-Hispanic Whites in Kern County vote like Whites in non-Dixiecrat Oklahoma, ie. overwhelmingly Republican. Furthermore, Biden and the Democrats have experienced similar gains in metro White areas, regardless of education, as they have in Oklahoma. Kern County's Hispanic population puts it on a different path but the NH White populations mirror each other well.

Yup and not even close, 59.5% in San Francisco have a Bachelor Degree compared to 17.6% in Kern
