All 3 Major HPs, to say at least, currently in the spotlight.

Almost pains me to say this, but Erdogan by process of elimination.

Yeah, this- whether by how own restraint, the Turkish people setting limits or the system of Turkish democracy (or all 3), he's going to leave his country in the least authoritarian state by far of those 3- and ironically, probably the least bad material state.

He can, but that is because the Turkish elite is divided on him and the political opposition to him has been more massive than the opposition against Putin or Maduro. Different countries with different realities have different political situations.

I have to say though, with it being an open question on whether it may be a good thing, but Putin clearly is more incompetent than either leader on the basis of having more to work with yet still underperform. Outside of doing the bare basics of putting in a state service at the behest of the oligarchs to allow for state investment to be utilized for them, he’s clearly only good at putting on a persona that the west and his gay-@$$ fans (serbs and awkward Russian men) eat up. There was no worry for a coup, yet he fires the competent people in the reestablished civil service and lines it up with Yes Men. He solves problems by Bombing and bribing, which has a limited lifespan in the long run.

Erdogan, while personally and politically detestable, is actually someone who can deliver on some shrewd political sense decisions even with being a huge flip flopper on them—like the attempts at Kurdish peace that was stunted by political realities to the South and pressure by more secular Turkish fascists apart of his governing majority or the alliance with the Gulenists that fell apart from a correct sense of fear of what they were aiming for.

Maduro however is immensely more competent, even more impressive given his humble roots but unsurprising given his time as a major labor leader. At least when he sells out, he does so at the right pace and rewards loyal lackeys and allies well. A shame really.

Putin, like Nicholas II, has done a great service of destabilizing Russia enough to create the right conditions for the uprooting of his regime in the long run yet do some small reforms to create a state apparatus future freedom fighters can use to fend off foreign invasion. He has also worked tirelessly in weakening the Anglo-dominated monopoly so much as to create the conditions for its end far later.
