Yes, it's an old photo. But I like it.

Anyway, this be the new official White House thread, where the President posts announcements, patronage appointments, official statements and generally gets to have a bit of fun with self-publicity.

And talking of which... cabinet announcements. I have two for you, the process of picking the third is still ongoing (for several reasons). They are:

1. TCash101 as SoFA
2. Boss Tweed as Attn. General

Yeah, not many changes here. If it ain't broke, don't fix it and so on.

Do TCash and I need confirmation hearings or do we just automatically stay on in our capacities?

I was performing the duties of SoFA as a member of the executive branch since the SoFA was unavailable. I will have to be confirmed if I am to continue.

Just to let you all know, but this administration is committed to slashing defense patronage. We probably won't get very far at it, but it's time for someone to try...

If you do so it will help aleviate a tiny bit of pressure on the admin budget (which STILL has not been given an increase despite pointing out the problems in funding the diplomatic and protection services months ago...but oh well Smiley ) and close a few budget black holes at the same time Wink Make things a little bit more 'meritocratic'

Yes, the SoFA needs to provide the governors with census data for reapportioning.

While I support replacing Bono, the terms of the GM Act require the consent of the Senate as well as the President to remove him.

Supreme Court stuff.

O.K... I don't like the Court to be politicised so I decided to ask a few people (including former Justices) for their views. After considering what they had to say...

I appoint Texasgurl as Chief Justice and Afleitch as Associate Justice.

The White House hopes that these nominees recieve a fair hearing. This administration would like to have good relations with the Senate.

The White House is considering it's options over Sec. of Ex.

This administration is less than amused at recent events.

A poor decision Mr President and I mean no disrespect to Hugh in what I am about to say.

We have had a weekend of turmoil over Hugh's failure to be confirmed, one which has seen some Senators attacked over voting against his confirmation. I believe that regardless of how the proceedings go, regardless of how many or how few questions are tabled and responses recorded, that some Senators will feel under pressure to vote to confirm Hugh because of what has gone before or what may happen if once again he is rejected.

Furthermore it appears that since the hearings you approached Lewis who publically declined the post and have since returned to Hugh. May I ask why?

The President has informed me that no one else has accepted his offer of the job... If anyone that would actually want the post step forward, I doubt there would have been a need for this.

I will serve as Secretary of External Affairs but highly doubt this administration would accept.

I didn't just ask Lewis, I asked several other people as well. All declined the offer.

You should note two things; the first is the fact that I am not going to appoint someone to this position who's views on foreign and defense issues are entirely incompatible with mine. It is unreasonable to expect me to do so.
The second is the fact that there now very few people left in Atlasia who are registered voters, who are not holding other positions and who have any interest in this position.

While the unfortunate circumstances of the first hearing will cast a cloud over what follows, I do think that Hugh will do his job well and that, I think, is the main thing.

You are of course free to disagree.
