The LAGOP uncensures Cassidy as Duke continues to gain momentum. He apologizes for his past and gets Trump’s endorsement. Meanwhile, Dems line up behind Ray Nagin, who was released from prison, and is eligible to run since Louisiana’s felon ban does not apply to Congress.

Nagin finishes first, Duke Second, and Cassidy third, so it’s a Nagin vs Cassidy runoff.

How does it turn out?

Or alternatively, how about former Congressman Bill Jefferson vs David Duke?

I don’t think rural whites would vote for the “God wants New Orleans to be a chocolate city” man. Or the Cash in the freezer guy.

Would Ray Nagin even win the African-American vote now?

Does anyone in New Orleans currently like him?

If this is a runoff, I don't see why black voters wouldn't get solidly behind whoever the opponent to David Duke is.

I feel like black voters just wouldn't show up, quite honestly.

Some might not appear. But you don't think that they would vote in droves to stop David Duke of all people?

Not for Nagin, and probably not for Jefferson either (though more would show up for him, Jefferson's prosecution did have the air of being politically motivated, even if he was guilty as sin). But someone like LaToya Cantrell would probably get record black turnout in this scenario (and might even pick up 35-40% of the White vote).

Cantrell vs Duke would kind of feel like Jones vs Moore except it wouldn't be as much of a sheer surprise.

I actually think Nagin would win while Jefferson would lose.

At least Nagin had some appeal to whites. He actually won whites easily in the 2002 mayor election. Though in 2006 he only got 20%. He’s such a clown that he would win. Nagin supported Bush in 2000 and Jindal in 2003.

Jefferson on the other hand, is hated by everyone.

OP said that Duke apologized for his Nazi past, so I could either maybe see potential black apathy or Uncle Toms supporting him because Democrats are the real racists.

Duke would win if it’s a Biden sixth year itch.

I think Duke would win. A generic black Democrat could beat him, but not Nagin or Jefferson.

I know, bumping an old thread, but the runoff would be Nagin and Duke, not Nagin and Cassidy
