There seems be a culture war brewing between the fight for gas stoves and electric stoves. I generally find gas stoves easier to use but I am open to change my mind.i generally dislike electric(induction) stoves when cooking

Having had both gas and electric stoves, I can say that gas stoves are objectively superior for cooking. As an added bonus, you can use them during a power outage.

To the extent that this is a culture war, that's only the case because politicians in deep-blue cities are making it so.

Gas, but this is a very weak preference.

I prefer gas, but I get the concern about them in some way but believe that is way down the list of our energy and environmental woes given it is corporate greed that causes the most pollution.

Um, your gas can go out just like your electricity can go out.

Induction is objectively the best for most types of cooking, but gas can be superior in some cases. Radiant electric is better for the environment than gas, but you feel poor using them.

It's just impossible to do any cooking that requires super-hot temperatures with electric. Gas all the way.

I have an electric stove and do not have any issues. Gas stoves are absurdly unhealthy. I think it's one of those things we'll look back on in a few decades and be shocked that we all thought it was okay and normal to burn and inhale gas in an enclosed space every single day.

Our electric stove looks really nice in the middle of our kitchen island, and I think it is a "good" stove ... however, it is the weirdest stove ever.  It will go from literally doing nothing and cool enough to touch to completely torching whatever we're cooking in two seconds, lol.

(Yes, I am bad/novice enough at cooking that how my stove looks within the context of my kitchen is honestly a factor for me, haha...)

having used both before I much prefer gas stoves but it's not like I'd refuse to use an electric one.

Grilling is the centrist option regardless of method. Electric is more environmentally friendly even though gas-powered grills are pretty far down the list in terms of emissions. And as the study Lief links to would appear to suggest, kids are far more likely to develop asthma in homes with gas grills.

Just never use charcoal. Taste the meat, not the heat.

Electric is better for the environment, so we should probably use them.

As someone new to this "running own household" thing for the past 1.5 years, I prefer electric because it's less scary + doesn't require to pay more.

Unless you live in a sh**tty climate or a place with sh**tty power infrastructure, electric is generally safer and easier.

I've been cooking for decades, usually as the primary provider of dinner. I have a strong preference for gas on the stove top as it allows me to make rapid changes in the heat delivered - electric heating coils change temperature slowly. That property of electric heat makes it my preference for an oven where I like a uniform temperature as something bakes.

Some cities like San Francisco have been considering building codes that would outlaw new natural gas connections because it is a fossil fuel.

The problem with induction is that it's alien cooking.  The rhythm and pace of cooking on induction is off compared to thermal methods.  Gas all the way.

Electric stoves are obviously way better and safer. We should slowly legislate gas stoves out of existence, banning them in new construction and giving financial assistance to homeowners to replace them.

(Most) electric stoves in their current form are absolutely effing horrible. I have one right now and I almost never use it for anything but stir fry; it's so bad that there are things that I just bake instead of browning or sautéing even though one really isn't supposed to. I'd fully support a phase-out of gas stoves if somebody invented an electric stove that actually, you know, worked the way a stove is meant to work, but somehow I doubt the San Francisco Board of Everything Else is going to be leading the charge on that one.

I have never heard of this culture war. I suggest we all pretend as if we had never seen this thread and go about our lives.
