The anarchists were the only good side in that war, the republicans were scum and were directly responsible for their fate.

Do you guys think the anarchists weren't also participants in that?

This is like saying you don't know which side to support in WWII because Allied soldiers raped German women en masse at the end of the war (which they did). Both sides commit war crimes in virtually every war that has been fought. That does not mean one side can't clearly be in the right in the overall conflict.

Republicans in the context of the 1930s. Had the war occurred 20 years later, probably Nationalists. A great example of a conflict in which there was not a good side and the only reasonable way of determining a good side was through the prism of global geopolitics.

Anyway, voted Republicans (R-leaning).

The Republicans, albeit reluctantly in retrospect considering that Spain did remain neutral during World War. Had Francisco Franco sided with Hitler, the war in Europe could have dragged on until the early 1950s considering that Spain had a large military and could have easily gained a foothold in the Levant region of the Middle East.

Idealistically: Republicans (Sane, not a fascist, etc)

Realistically: Whoever seized control where I happened to live at the time (don't want to be executed)

Alternate realistic option: Nobody and I happen to buy a 1 way boat ticket to somewhere in Latin America
