Really, New Hampshire ignores Vermont. Before he ran for president, no one here knew that Dean was the governor there. We are tuned into Assachusetts politics, not Green Mountain politics.

Kerry needs to win key battleground states such as Pennslyvania and how better to do that than by selecting Gov. Ed Rendell (D)?

Rendell has only been governor for 1 1/2 years and he isn't even that popular in PA, even though he would probably deliver the state. Kerry needs more than just PA to win.

Yeah but Rendell could help in Florida too.

Dean was long-serving Governor of Vermont and it didn't help him in NH.  I don't think Leahy has any pull whatsoever on New Hampshirites except that his supporters next door can help out.  Regardless, I think Ohio is a bigger target for the Democrats than NH.

How better to get chased out of this state on a rail?

I quite like Leahy, as a man. I think he adds nation-wide appeal more then tate-by-state appeal. Biggest con-Northeast Liberal.

If the nominee was Gephart, Clark or Edwards, Leahy should have been the man. ESPECIALLY if it was Clark.

The problem with Leahy is he isn't wide enough known. (Plus, a ticket with two New Englanders is bound to fail, I don't care if it's JFK and John Adams) People like Gephardt, who was minority leader, and Clark and Edwards, who ran nationally prominent campaigns, are more nationally known, something the Democrats need. That's why Hillary in 2008/2012 is gaining some support.

Gary Locke

Current Gov of Washington who is finishing up his term and not seeking another.  Aside from that I have no real reason to think he would be VP ... just figured everyone else's name has been mentioned so why not him.

Gary Locke would be good except the Democrats don't really need his area. He was the one who gave the 2003 response to the State of the Union and I think he is partly Chinese, which would help him along the West Coast, but we don't need help there, hopefully.

If Leahy is the VP, is there enough time for Dean to get ballot status for VT senate?

Is there any corroboration for the rumor that it has been winnowed down to those 2 finalists?

Please no!  Gephardt is a sure way to lose, and Edwards...well...I just dislike him.

I'll dare suggest it: Ron Reagan.

Gary Locke isnt running for governor because he is incredibly unpopular in WA.

Are you sure about that?  Last thing I heard was that Independent pollster Stuart Elway says that although Locke's popularity ratings are at their lowest ebb, he's still the most popular pol in the state, with a positive rating of over 50 percent.

It would look to political.  But I hope Ron Reagan becomes the left's Ronald Reagan someday Smiley
