Could be anywhere from a night in the county jail to a life sentence in prison. Has it happened to you or someone close?

My brother amassed an impressive number of parking tickets in college and didn't want to tell the old man, so the judge gave him a choice after ignoring them - pony up or a weekend in the Clarion County Jail.  He chose the weekend over admitting to the old man he owed that much money.   Probably a smart call but he was scared sh**tless in jail.

According to family legend, a long-ago relative of mine (he died before I was born) was a gangster who was in and out of prison several times before being killed in a mob war.  I have no idea how much, if any, of that is true.

I have a second cousin (first cousin of my uncle and father, being the son of their maternal aunt), who was incarcerated and released from prison decades ago, before I was born. I'm not sure what he was incarcerated for, and I don't want to know. My late paternal uncle, who died nine years before I was born, was incarcerated during the last few years of his life and died while still in prison.

Sure I spent time in two different jails. In one the authorities did not bother to lock the cell door. In that locale, when the police chief called me interested in buying some land, I told one condition precedent to even getting his nose in the tent, he needed to make sure my pot stash was never, ever, messed with again. He laughed.

In the other incident, I realized that the vetting process for the prison guards needed an improvement, a lot of improvement. That was when I pondered what it would be like if I were an inarticulate person of color unable to effectively "defend" themselves.

My lawyer said I should be out of here within 4-6 years if I take a plea deal and co-operate with detectives and assist with the investigation regarding this case.

Really? That is surprising to hear. Are you willing to share why?

I’m positive that my maternal grandfather has gotten at least a few DUIs.

It's a long story, but I'll give you the super duper abridged version.  As I said in another thread: it's public info anyway.

Basically: my then-boyfriend and I got into a fight, things got out of hand, we both ended up getting arrested and charged with a DVC.

I voted no, but technically my dad worked in our local jail for a while; so the answer might be yes depending on what you understand for "spent time in jail" Tongue

Yes. Not me though.
A close relative got several years for fraud on a massive scale. It shook the country it took place in but it happened in about the 1950-60s.

Does 12 hours in a holding cell as a very inebriated 18 year old count? If so, yes.

I spent four hours in a county jail along a couple dozen others way back when I was in college during an environmental protest as part of an organized act of non-violent civil disobedience.

Even though we had a couple lawyers and bail money ready we needed to wait for all of the paperwork to be processed before we could be released.

I still have a photo someone took of me being cuffed in a biohazard suit leaning against the cop car...
