So....my seat is apparently the most left-wing in the country. #ALATT

Geez, Clive . . . $100 million for one Senator who's gonna have zero influence?

Has Palmer’s spending been different from previous elections, because back then it was mainly used to attack Labor which probably represented a decent investment?

Has anybody got an estimate of how many seats would have been won by Labor and the Coalition had they been the final contenders in every seat? I know the 2PP will come out eventually and answer this, but can guesses be made based on expected swing from last time, Senate results etc?

The AEC counts every seat as two-party preferred to create the national 2pp. They released them yesterday, results in non-traditional seats are (National totals are Lab 84 LNP 67):
LABOR
Canberra - 62.2% v Green, 72.5% v Liberal

Sydney - 66.7% v Green, 75.6% v Liberal
Wills - 58.6% v Green, 75.8% v Liberal

COALITION
Bradfield - 54.2% v Independent, 56.5% v Labor
Calare - 59.7% v Independent, 65.5% v Labor

Groom - 56.9% v Independent, 64.2% v Labor
Nicholls - 53.8% v Independent, 67.1% v Labor
Wannon - 53.9% v Independent, 59.1% v Labor

OTHER
Brisbane - 53.7% Green v Liberal, 54.4% Labor v Liberal

Clark - 70.8% Independent v Labor, 67.2% Labor v Liberal
Curtin - 51.3% Independent v Liberal, 55.6% Liberal v Labor
Fowler - 51.6% Independent v Labor, 55.7% Labor v Liberal
Goldstein - 52.9% Independent v Liberal, 54.8% Liberal v Labor

Well in that case, it's gone even worse for him this time around.

All the ballots have been counted as all seats have been declared. The final turnout feel bellow 90% for the first time since 1922, just before compulsory voting was introduced.

The final TPP numbers have Labor at 52.1% and the Coalition at 47.9%.

So the polls weren't much wrong at all, in the end.

Of the 19 most educated seats in Australia (based on those where 55% or more, compared to 47% nationwide, have a 'Certificate III' plus skilled worker qualification), the Liberals won 11 in 2019 and just 2 this time. Labor gained two from the Coalition while losing Griffith, all the Green gains and all the Independent gains except for Mackellar happened in this group. It's a pretty dramatic shift to see and Australia really is in line with the rest of the world with higher educated voters now being unfriendly to the right. The two seats left are Berowra and Bradfield, which they held on 60% and 54% respectively. Bradfield did have a teal challenge but must not have been targeted much. Berowra wouldn't be safe either, since seats like Curtin that were 64% Liberal in 2019 were lost. This small group of seats is nearly half of the Liberals losses. The Liberals probably can eventually win without them, but that would be pretty difficult for them in the next election.

I don't see how they can win a majority without them, unless they break into a labour stronghold.

I'm wondering if the Labour will get their own group of indy challengers next time, given the results in Fowler some safe labour seats might be vunerable to them.

Can you explain which Labor seats exactly would be vulnerable based on the results in Fowler and why?

Yeah, Fowler is one of a kind and I would hope that Labor learn the lessons there.

I could see some of those Western Melbourne seats look interesting if Andrews remains in power in 2025 though - I could see him getting toxic fast and it really harming Labor amongst a certain kind of working-class voter.

Yeah, kind of the Aussie equivalent to Segolene Royal in Chjarente-Maritime 1 in '12.

Is there any data on Senate voting below the top line results? I’m sure I saw comparisons between the senate vote in a house seat and the corresponding house vote somewhere which suggests it’s available, that or polling booths would be great.

How easy of a ride will Labour get in the Senate? Getting the support of the Greens and David Pocock for socially liberal legislation seems very achievable, but the latter doesn’t seem to have talked much about his economic views (though it’s not like Labor have a markedly left wing agenda). Jacqui Lambie seems kinda left wing (or at least ‘populist’), would she be a reasonably reliable person to negotiate with?

He talked a lot about housing avaliability (and his only tweet about the new Cabinet was expressing satisfaction that Housing is now a Cabinet position).

He also talked about childcare & ensuring that corporations don't avoid paying their fair share of taxes, too, IIRC. Really, his whole pitch was basically that he wasn't born in Canberra, but he lives there, genuinely loves it, & wants to be better representing its interests than his predecessor, Zed Seselja's god-awful job of doing so, & so would see his primary duty in-office as representing the ACT & its interests to the best of his ability. The ACT is rather progressive as a whole, & he's certainly no Marx, but he's solidly socially progressive & economically in-line with the majority of the new Parliament, with a large focus on supporting local business & engaging with locals on their matters, & not being just another politician.

Lambie has a few differences with Labor & the Greens, but it's not a bad mix. Except for votes against renewables, she's a heterodox centrist populist who's basically a well-meaning person from the Tas Country without a pure, Xenophonian ego.

And with Albo announcing his Ministry, I think we can officially declare the election season over.

Among the appointments is Matt Thistlethwaite, who has been made Assistant Minister for the Republic!

What is the Assistant Minister for the Republic? Why does Australia even have a position like that, it isn't even a republic.

His mission in the new post is to restart the national discussion with the public about moving towards becoming a republic & having an Australian head of state, but they've already conceded that ditching the Monarchy isn't a 1st-term priority like the Indigenous Voice to Parliament is. Serious moves toward a republic aren't really expected 'til you-know-what happens.
even then is even a certain to happen? ((popularity wise I expect that charles will be like Edward VII))
