While this is NBC, this is hardly the first poll to indicate that Trump is losing influence over the Republican Party. It’ll be interesting to see what this number is by 2023.

That doesn't mean that that they won't/will support a GOP candidate that's not Trump or those 56% won't vote for Trump over Desantis or someone in a primary.

Well, that says nothing about a 2024 primary with Trump. And Trump actually brought in several voters that weren't traditional GOP voters but who didn't vote at all or for Obama before.

Almost like liberal, grossly simplistic, elitist caricatures of Republican voters don’t always line up with reality - who knew?

This is only 3 to 2 and Trump has won many primaries before with that same share. There’s no unified school opposition to him, country club “RINOs” like Jeb Bush Marco Rubio Kasich, the Chamber of Commerce types like Fiorina, half decent libertarians like Rand Paul, religious guys like Huckabee  Carson Cruz. Then there’s whatever Chris Christie is. Trump’s just the one hog to rule them all. If I’m giving fake meme percentages I’d give DeSantis a 20% chance at most

Trump might be having less of an influence but his ideas aren't. I don't see the GOP going back to the Country Club party anytime soon.

There was a Politico article saying Ron DeSantis is what the post-Trump Republican Party looks like. Trumpism without Trump has a lot better prospects at the moment than reversing Trump's entire legacy.

Both sides don't understand the other. It's remarkable how similar the ways in which the two parties are (perhaps mis)understood.

I mean, they only tried to topple American democracy for him, but yea.

Hopefully figures like these will end some of the worse analysis of Republican primary elections too.
