New report about a Portland Police Department Training Slide Deck which included inappropriate material, including themes involving violence against protesters.

This was just released as a result of an ongoing lawsuit of plaintiffs who suffered violence at the hands of the PPD over the past couple years.

Hell--- I remember back in the late '90s / early '00s when the Portland Police Department used Rubber Bullets and tear gas against a peaceful May Day gathering in the North Part Blocks area of West PDX and all this crap was supposed to stop bcs the citizens of Portland were outraged.

Nothing appears to have changed in 20 years and if anything it vindicates the Black Lives Matter protesters locally who were focused on Portland police accountability before the focus shifted to the Federal Bldg when Trump deployed his goons and escalated the situation further.

That it's bad taste goes without saying, but it's particularly irritating to watch cops puff themselves up like this when by all accounts their department has never been less effective at keeping the city safe. Portlanders are avoiding sections of their bike paths that have abandoned to criminals and junkies. Where do these guys get off pretending that they are a bunch of macho badasses? Talk about overcompensating.

Interesting observation.... I hadn't really thought about the font.

Now it makes me curious if the Impact Font was used by the Proud Boys alt knights in their other "Based Stickman" memes, which is where the Portland Police Department training slide I posted in my OP was based on, which makes this training slide even worse.

It raises broader questions about how many other Law Enforcement Agencies elsewhere used this same training slidedeck, and also raises even larger questions about the association / identification between elements of LEAs and right-wing paramilitary formations such as the Proud Boys (in this case the fraternal order of the alt knights which is their "tactical self-defense" arm).

The Feds are now PO'd at the Portland Police Department / City of Portland did not make them aware months ago the the training materials:

"Feds furious that Portland police, city kept them in dark about training slide advocating violence against demonstrators

Lawyers from the U.S. Department of Justice on Monday told Portland’s police chief and city attorney to hand over all “original, unredacted” training materials for the Rapid Response Team, furious that the city didn’t make them aware months ago of a team training presentation that included a derogatory slide advocating violence against protesters.

The attorneys wrote that the city of Portland should have reported the crowd-control team’s training presentation to the Justice Department when it was developed, as required by the city’s eight-year-old use-of-force settlement with the federal agency.

Justice Department attorneys Jared D. Hager and R. Jonas Geissler said they were told of the inappropriate material for the first time Thursday night and that the city shared the slideshow with them only hours before the mayor’s office released it to the media Friday afternoon.

They described the training slides -- not just the offensive slide that was inserted at the end -- as having “varying degrees of offensive content, incorrect guidance and false or misleading information.”

The city attorney should have turned over the material to the Justice Department when his office obtained them in September as discovery evidence for a pending federal lawsuit.

“Had the City informed us of the existence of these training materials at the time, we would have had the opportunity to provide substantial edits and decline to approve the training,” Hager’s and Geissler’s letter said.
