Amazing that you all need to come up with an elaborate excuse for why a man with a very realistic shot at the position would want to be President of the United States.

This is the entirety of the answer. No other factors play any real role here. The fact is that once you realize what a raging narcissist Donald Trump is, everything he does makes perfect sense. His narcissism alone is an adequate explanation for everything including his run for president, which foreign leaders he likes and dislikes, his bullying tweets, the fact that he touts the vaccine as an accomplishment despite his base hating it, the whole stolen election nonsense, the fact that he'll never disavow extremist groups that likes him, etc.

Every time somebody asks "why is Trump doing this?", think whether his narcissism explains it. The answer will almost always be "yes, it does".

As long as he isn't prosecuted he is free to run for another term that's why Ds wanted him impeached and criminally convicted so he never runs for office again but RS punted on that in the Senate

But, who thought that DOJ was going to punt on Prosecuting Trump a D one at that

He may believe that it would be better for his reputation to have a comeback story.

-He wants to use his continued political activity as a defense against future criminal prosecution, which is extremely likely to come.
-He thinks it's a way to make more money.
-He likes attention.
