Nay. If it is OK for a federal ban to be implemented within months why does a reversal of that ban require ten years??

Before the ban can be reversed we must ensure, for the sake of our children, that there will be no material negative effect. Thus the repeal must not kick in for quite some time, so that we have a broad consensus, upheld by generations of congresses, that we are doing the right thing based on all the information that is and will become avaliable.

Funny how this enthusiasm for broad consensus and taking pains to do the right thing never appears if there's an opportunity to give more power to the federal government instead.

1. This act may be cited as the Federal Assault Weapon and Automatic Weapon Ban Full Repeal Act.

Section 2. Definitions

2. All sections of the Federal Assault Weapon and Automatic Weapon Ban Act are hereby repealed in their entirety, effective immediately.

3. The categories of weapons set out in the repealed legislation shall subsequently be regulated under the National Firearms Act.
