Monroe, of course! King was pretty good personally, but the Federal party in 1816 was a wreck of its former self, having slouched into reactionary provincial politics, state rights, and secessionism in order to align itself with the conservative Tertium Quids, and did not even run electors in most states —why vote for that when you could have the American System and the Era of Good Feelings?
