As far as the impact on the Presidential race itself is concerned, I think Obama loses NC and IN in 2008; and loses FL in 2012 without the impact of running mates on performance.
Biden wouldn't have helped or hurt Obama, as he would have been elected separately from Obama

Cheney's noteriety did not emerge until after Bush was elected; he may well have prevailed.
I don't think he was particularly appealing even before that
