1. amend the us constitution to ban all handguns. after ratification of the amendment, allow for a one year grace period for people to turn in handguns without penalty. after the grace period has expired, anyone convicted of having a handgun should face severe penalties. anyone convicted of using a handgun in the commision of a crime, should receive a minimum of a 25 year prison sentence.

2. shotguns and rifles should only be sold to persons over 21 years of age, who have successfully passed a background check and a gun safety course. all guns should be registered.

3. repeal any and all legislation that has been passed to exempt gun manufacturers from civil or criminal liabilities in wrongful death cases.

1. amend the us constitution to ban all handguns.

So only criminals will have handguns. Huzzah!

So an 18 year old can join the military, become a trained weapon of destruction, and fight enemies on the battlefield with guns, knives, and rocket launchers, but he's not allowed to buy a shotgun or rifle at home?

So if some idiot mishandles his gun and someone gets killed it's the manufacturer's fault?

Now here's my 1-point gun control plan:
1. Severly punish those who use guns for criminal purposes and those whose negligence with their guns causes harm while leaving law abiding citizens who wish to own guns alone.

Since you have touched upon the issue most likely to cause me to go ballistic I will resist the urge to do that and simply throw my support behind John Dibble's plan.

You 3-point control plan:
1 - load
2 - aim
3 - fire

Dumb idea. Selective comparisons aside, disarming innocents is not an effective way to 'reduce crime.'

1. anyone convicted of using a handgun in the commision of a crime, should receive a minimum of a 25 year prison sentence.

I'd support this. The rest of your proposal number 1 I would oppose.

2. shotguns and rifles should only be sold to persons 18 years of age or older, who have successfully passed a background check. all guns should be registered.

I'd support the above, which is of course slightly modified from what you had.

3. repeal any and all legislation that has been passed to exempt gun manufacturers from civil or criminal liabilities in wrongful death cases.

I'd support that.

It's total madness.
The only european country where handguns are banned is the United Kingdom---except Northern Ireland.
The rest have different degrees of restriction.

My three point gun control program.

1.  Identify the target.

2.  Point the gun.

3.  Fire.

Preferably in that order.

Horrible plan. As Bono said not even most European countries have the same level of ban that you propose.

I like Dibble's simple 1-step plan much better.

Very very stupid.

And some European countries actually have far less strict gun control laws than the US. I believe in Norway, Finland and Switzerland it's legal to own just about any type of rifle.

I don't hunt.  But nearly every friend of mine does.  My family was angry at my mom because she got married on the first Saturday of deer hunting season.

There should be mandatory background checks and a 3 day waiting period before you can get the gun.

Owning guns for the purposes of hunting should be least restricted.  People should be 18 in order to purchase guns, but people under 18 should be able to use them for hunting, provided they have taken a gun safety course.

I could handle having hand guns and hunting rifles.. but everything else?  yes, they should be illegal.  Give me ONE legitimate reason why someone needs an automatic weapon.

I mean.. we have lawmakers in Wisconsin telling us that teachers should carry guns...  How am I supposed to respond to taht?

Gun control is not a black or white issue, and I believe that the people ahve a right to bear arms... but the NRA takes it WAY WAY too far... unless your objective is to make popcorn venison...

You're buying into the myth that "assault weapons" are automatic weapons. They aren't, they're just semi-automatic rifles that look scary to soccer moms.
As for automatic weapons, here's a reason I'd like to own one--to shoot holes in beer barrels. Why? Because it's fun.

And if someone steals that gun and uses it to commit a crime, should you be held responsible?

I would say yes.  If you want the gun, you need to take the responsibility of keeping it in your possession at all times.
