The article is referring primarily to Arizona veterans, but I think their problems can be applicable nationally to veterans in other states:

Arizona veterans struggle to get access to health care as backlogs grow. Can it be fixed?

These problems are hardly new, which begs the question -why haven't they been fixed yet?

How much are politicians in general wanting to actually help the people, and how many are just out for themselves to win reelection? And who are beholding to big money? Some politicians are good public servants, but the system has been corrupted over the years with money being wasted in the billions. Especially with the Pentagon....they are not able to account for the money they are given.

That's the problem right there. The military needs to be held accountable for ALL the money they are given. They need to provide for their own. They should be shamed into it if necessary.
