OK, this is bad, if true (needs confirmation). Russia may be attacking Moldova also, not just Ukraine.

I saw a report of this 5-10 minutes ago but assumed it must be a mistake, but this is 2nd report I saw.

If it is true, WHAT THE HELL ?? MOLDOVA ??

If true, the odds of a nuclear exchange just increased by that much.

A report of some sort of Ukrainian victory defending Kiev's airport (Boryspil airport). From an obvious pro-Ukrainian source, might not be objective.

Would be massive if true. Russia could only get to Kiev by conventional means then.

If true, it's a major blow though. Mariupol is the 10th largest city in Ukraine and a valuable port/defensive city for the Ukrainian Army.

Indeed, and the fact that the city fell in 2 hours? I find this unbelievable, even if the Ukrainian military simply retreated without fighting and there is a lot of pro-Russian support in Mariupol. It would take more than 2 hours to just occupy the city I'd imagine.

ASB seems to just be solely disinformation so my scant trust for them seems to have been misplaced. I'll avoid posting them from now on.

More on Moldova. Seems unclear what is happening, but Transdnistria is a separatist area of Moldova (Russian backed) on the Ukraine-Moldova border, for context, so it could be something there.

The information environment is really not clear enough to be sure that Mariupol has in fact fallen. It will take time before a lot of things become clear, the situation is inherently chaotic now and will be for a while until things get sorted out and the situation becomes clearer.

The Russian army is modern, well coordinated, and hackable. The Taliban is none of that. Afghanistan is a century behind the world. Much easier to get intelligence on navy and tank movements when the enemy actually has a navy and tanks.

I think slim. But they should try to do as much as they can. Make this as unpalatable to the Russian people as possible.

The most tragic part of all of this is that the west could have easily prevented this and chose not to. If there's any justice in history Biden will be remembered in the same breath as Chamberlain. We are hoping hard for the best.

Do we really have to sacrifice a country on the altar of appeasement every generation to relearn this lesson?
