Ban McDonald's Act

Recongizing that McDonald's horribly is an unhealthy restaurant whose products contribute to obesity and to a lifestyle of consumption and consumerism,

Recongizing that Obesity and the culture of rampant consumerism is one are two of the biggest problems facing Atlasia and the Lincoln Region,

The General Court Hereby,

1. Prohibits McDonald's, or any affiliate or franchise thereof, from operating anywhere in Lincoln and from importing their products to Lincoln

2. Bans any offsite McDonald's facility or similar venue that seeks to produce McDonald's products in Lincoln for exportation to other regions.

3. No McDonald's operating in Lincoln shall be allowed to provide toys with the purchase of any meal, unless they are made entirely of wood and produced by a Lincoln handcraftsman with local wood

4. EXCEPTIONS: Any McDonald's, or any affiliate or franchise thereof, or any related offsite facility or similar venue, that sells or produces ONLY a selection of the items on this list may remain open:

- McMuffins
- McGriddles
- Biscuit Sandwiches
- Beverages
- Salads
-Any other meals which do not exceed a total of 1,000 1,750 calories

5.Decrees that any McDonald's, or any affiliate or franchise thereof, or any related offsite facility or similar venue, that acts in contravention to this law, will see all of its owners fined no more than $250,000. Each case will be judged individually.

6.All McDonald's closed due to non-compliance will be replaced by a government-operated Shake Shack franchise, offering a wide selection of shakes, burgers, hot dogs, and other staples of Americana, at legally-mandated low prices and using healthy recipes.

7. A new fund shall be established from all fines collected in the enforcement of this statute, to be directed to the promotion and preservation of traditional Irish cuisine and dance music in the region of Lincoln

8. This Act shall take effect six months after passage

This is the same bill that was vetoed by the Governor in August. The present composition of the LGC indicates this should enjoy veto proof support.

Recongizing that Obesity is one of the biggest problems facing Atlasia and the Lincoln Region,

- Bans McDonalds, or any affiliate or franchise thereof, from operating anywhere in Lincoln and from importing their products to Lincoln

- Bans any offsite McDonalds facility or similar venue that seeks to produce McDonalds products in Lincoln for exportation to other regions.

- EXCEPTION: Any McDonalds, or any affiliate or franchise thereof, or any related offsite facility or similar venue, that sells or produces ONLY a selection of the items on this list may remain open:

- McMuffins
- McGriddles
- Biscuit Sandwiches

- Decrees that any McDonalds, or any affiliate or franchise thereof, or any related offsite facility or similar venue, that acts in contravention to this law, will see all of its owners and managers imprisoned for anywhere from six months to three years. Each case will be judged individually.

-All McDonald's closed due to non-compliance will be replaced by a government-operated Shake Shack franchise, offering a wide selection of shakes, burgers, hot dogs, and other staples of Americana, at legally-mandated low prices and using healthy recipes.

The allowance for at least some of the burgers and the lack of prison time guts the bill in my view, so I object to that amendment as well.

I am disappointed in what this bill  has become. I shall still back it but I will not attempt to expedite it.

In fairness, I don't think a bill with a blanket ban on burgers from a specific company would withstand judicial review. This does a lot for your goal of promoting healthy behaviors while staying within constitutional confines.
