Not only did he not say that, this was litigated weeks ago. He said that a woman doesn't need to play James Bond because better parts should be written for women and people of color. He's saying that instead of fitting women and people of color into specific roles like Bond, writers should be creative and write new and better characters.

Which is what people are saying when they say James Bond should not be a woman.

There should be no more James Bond films. It's run its course.

Let's at least get a man of color to play James Bond before we start considering gender swapping the role.

If his name is James Bond, then.....

Hot take: they will choose Idris Elba.

Yet this never happens. Instead there is an ongoing mission in Hollywood to change every legendary role into a POC. This even extends to historical figures, they recently casted a black Anne Boleyn FFS.

It's a very damning sign of the world we live in these days when you watch the trailers before a movie and every single one is an adaptation, prequel, sequel, remake, whatever.

Like the film industry has completely given up on the idea of taking risks or coming up with new original content and just wants to make bank regurgitating the same things forever and ever.

Well, Barbara Broccoli has already said that a woman won't play Bond so long as she's alive, & since she has the complete final say on the matter as the owner of the Bond film rights & as the producer of the films, then I'd take her word for it.

Very misogynistic of her, you see.

Sure sounds like by saying that, he was diplomatically saying that a white man should still play James Bond even though there should also be more, better, original roles for women and POCs. His exact quote was:

"The answer to that is very simple. There should simply be better parts for women and actors of color. Why should a woman play James Bond when there should be a part just as good as James Bond, but for a woman?"

All in response to being outright asked if a woman should play Bond. The answer was clearly "No, with a but..." But still "No." He calls the answer "simple," says there should "simply" be other roles instead, asks why a woman should play Bond, and clearly implies that the role is not "for" a woman. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to crack this code and see what he was very clearly trying to get at. I don't know why you are so aggressively insisting he didn't say what he said by... citing what he said.

Has it?  These James Bond films (and Mission Impossible) began during (and got their inspiration from) the Cold War between the United States and the Soviet Union, adjusted to fit the 9/11 era, and will continue to gain new relevance with the onset of a new Cold War, this time with the People's Republic of China.

Studios shamelessly pander to the Chinese market these days. They will not dare to release a film in which the Glorious People's Republic is portrayed as the villain.

Eh, I doubt that -IMHO there is a huge potential market for casting Chinese Communists as villains:

And that was pre-Covid.  It has only gotten worse since then.

And to return to the topic of the thread, I agree with Daniel Craig, and I am looking forward to a future James Bond with a woman partner of at least equal caliber and deadliness:

Quote
The actor spoke to Radio Times print magazine, weighing in with his own thoughts on a female 007 following in his footsteps and getting behind the wheel of the Aston Martin. And while Craig does not think this particular role should be given to a woman, he does think that women and people of colour should be offered roles of this calibre.

“The answer to that is very simple,” he said. “There should simply be better parts for women and actors of colour. Why should a woman play James Bond when there should be a part just as good as James Bond, but for a woman?”

No one wants a woman James Bond. It's a ridiculous premise since the character's masculinity is so central to his appeal. The whole thing is nothing but a fantasy for academic ladies that won't watch the movie anyway.

For the moment thats true, but I predict thats gonna change sooner or later. China is clearly trying to build up it's own film industry to compete with Hollywood and once it does I think it's gonna stop allowing so many American films to be released in China. Once there's less money to be made there and once this Second Cold War really gets up and running I think your gonna be seeing a lot more Chinese villains. Western culture is already turning against the Chinese with covid and everything. Also they'll always make sure to have a Chinese American side character on the good guy side so they don't get accused of being racist.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I unfortunately feel like thats where things are heading.

P.S. Daniel Craig is right, Bond being a woman wouldn't make sense for that character.

It also wouldn't make a whole lot of sense in regards to the character's seduction skills and aspect of personality.

Obviously "Jane Bond" would be played by an extremely attractive actress, so if she bedded men as much as James did women...that would mean absolutely nothing. "Hot woman is able to easily get men to have sex with her"...shocking!

And if she kept seducing women and was implied to be lesbian/bi it would just get accused of tokenization or using lesbian sexuality for male appeal...and that would probably be a correct criticism in all fairness.

He's a fool and wrong. Daniel Craig shouldn't be talking either. From the beginning he's always had this brutal Germanic look that is nothing like the Bond persona of this suave English guy. I'll be glad when he's no longer Bond.
