From 1987 to 2005, there was a strong possibility that Gen. Colin Powell would have been the first Black president of the United States of America.

Had he won in the 1990s against Bill Clinton, Al Gore, or Jesse Jackson as a Republican or an Independent, would Black Lives Matter be a thing?

He is a Black conservative, but he is not in the Larry Elder/Candace Owens/Star Parker mold of disparaging Black communities....

What would America be today?

How would the Democratic Party have reacted to a Powell presidency?

1. Yes
2. In a similar position
3. Probably not nearly as hostilely as say someone like Tim Scott and Candice Owens, but still with some opposition. I think it would look similar to The Eisenhower years with The Dems willing to work with Powell but offering a more liberal alternative. I think in 2004, someone like Biden or Kerry would be president with Florida being the deciding state.

Okay, maybe Mike Johnson is a competent parliamentarian.

You could argue it would be even more of a thing, since part of BLM's early energy had to do with the perception that the Obama administration hadn't delivered the dividends for black America that many people had assumed or hoped it would.

There was never a strong possibility the Powell could have become the Republican nominee let alone President. Powell was many things, but a politician wasn't one of them.
