Suppose the primary was closer with Obama just slightly ahead of Hillary in pledged delegates going into the convention, and Hillary comes out with the nomination by convincing the Supers that she should be the nominee since she got more popular votes. This results in Obama running third party/independent in the general election. What happens?

A massive landslide for McCain due to vote splitting.

Senator John McCain/Governor Sarah Palin: 454 E.V./45% P.V.
Senator Hillary Clinton/Senator Joe Biden: 53 E.V./34% P.V.
Senator Barack Obama/Senator Bernie Sanders: 31 E.V./18% P.V.

I don’t think even Bernie would go along with something like this. He would have to pick someone like Ralph Nader or Dennis Kucinich.

I don't think HRC wins any of MO, AR, or LA. She would have trouble flipping AR or LA without a third party taking away votes

The OP seems to have Obama and Hillary's personalities confused with each other.

Obama would never do this.

Hillary probably would have in 2008 if she thought she could beat Obama and McCain.
