My sister would proudly tell you that we're 2% South Asian because of a genealogy test she took. Like your average white girl with an interest in New Age stuff, she was excited to see that potentially flawed, and likely irrelevant statistic within her DNA results.

But if I were to go with it, we'd most likely have Romani ancestors, that's the only thing that adds up with our genetic history.

To my knowledge- we have several ethnic Chinese-American posters, at least 2 Korean Americans, at least 1 (fully Asian) Vietnamese American, at least 1 (full) Filipino American, at least 1 Pakistani American, at least 1 Bangladeshi American- and Vishnu knows how many Indian Americans and hapas/Eurasians.

We also have at least 2 South Asian Canadians (not 100% sure if both are Indian), and at least 1 Chinese Canadian of Hong Kong origin.

Because  non Asians had no particular incentive to answer the poll. But the old Anglo Saxon Yankee fossil just did.  That won't contribute much. Maybe a poll, are you Asian and not Asian, might out better the non Asians. But the poll should be careful in defining what Asian is. Is a Turk  living in Turkey west of the Bosporus Asian? How about a Russian living east or the Urals?

I will not live long enough to witness the day when race is rendered into the ash heap of history as a practical matter. But it will come in due time. I see it happening, bit by bit, while still here. And while many things are going downhill out there, race issues I am quite confident are improving. In my experience, day to day interactions between races in the zip codes I inhabit at least are more "natural," as it were.

The Census Bureau does not classify Indians as white, and of course the Supreme Court ruled in U. S. v. Bhagat Singh Thind that Indians were not white.
