Over the past 14 days, Florida has had the biggest percentage drop in cases (-44%) and tied with Louisiana for the biggest drop in hospitalizations (-35%).
We know it can take anywhere from 3-5 weeks after cases peak before peaks in hospitalizations and death occur. We're within that window right now. Hospitalization rates already have, and death rates will follow shortly.
FL will continue to have higher death rates than many other states due to the median age of the state and its relatively low vaccination rate. Of the 5 oldest states in the country, only 2 lack notably high rates of vaccination (FL & WV). Guess which 2 states find themselves in the top 3 for deaths per 100,000 right now? FL & WV.
