averaging 445 PER DAY and climbing.

At what point is this criminal behavior by elected officials?

Florida is cooking the books too. When we get excess mortality and accurate look back you'll see more people died then should have.

Why should we care about Floridians dying? It's actually good for Social Security. There's plenty more Northeastern and Midwestern old people where they came from.

I pretty much assume this is the case.  Which is scary.  Deathsantis's stupidity has already killed off nearly 1/400 Floridians according to those estimates.  So the real number is probably 1/200.  In other words, by the time this is over, 1% of FL's population will die of covid probably.

Quite honestly, I could care less about Florida's stupidity if it didn't also impact other states.  They've obviously spread the virus straight up the east coast.  It's currently swarming in North Carolina.

Northeastern states - you're welcome that NOVA is acting as somewhat of a buffer zone of competence that is containing the virus to the southeast... for now...

I don't think the disparity is that high but it's obvious he wanted to control the reporting narrative for political reasons and you don't do that unless the numbers are bad.

I dunno man.  I think however bad we assume it is, it's probably actually worse.  This guy clearly gives zero f**** about letting people die and also lying about it.

If you look at the numbers of new cases, they are on a clear downward trend the past month.

Because everybody got it, because DeSantis is an idiot.

Yes but it's still at 42 per 100,000 which is fairly high and Miami is a bit under that which is weighting down the avg.  There are still some pretty big outbreak pockets.  I do wonder if the summer was particularly brutal for FL because it was hot so people tended to go inside for AC.  Not to make excuses for the idiot Gov.

This. These numbers are nowhere close to the real #'s. We've known for well over a year that Florida and some other red states were classifying covid deaths as pneumonia deaths to make Dear Leader's covid response look not quite as terrible.

Rona DeathSentence unfortunately won't be indicted for his willful negligence, but at the very least, he's already killed 20,000 more Floridians than his margin of victory in 2018.  If the FL Dems can find a strong and competent candidate*, DeathSentence should rightfully be severely endangered for re-election.

* Spoiler: they won't

Is this one new?  I like this better than "DeathSantis".

I was about to post this verbatim. This is the guy so concerned about undeserving people taking his tax dollars? He should be ecstatic, this is his dream. All the Medicare and Social Security generated paid by northeasterners so they can retire in Florida - now they won't even need to take the payout in a red state.

Is any of this due to climate, and/or the aged demographic profile of the state? Just asking.

The Butcher of Florida, ladies and gentlemen:

Oh, excuse me, the 2024 GOP presidential nominee:

I will say one nice thing about him though: The dude's got pretty eyes... but those pretty boy looks don't matter when your idiocy is causing your state to plunge into the depths of hell because of you and your stupid party's pathetic and weak "leadership".

Likely both, in addition to being significantly more urban than most states.

(To the degree it is relevant) Numerous health experts who have weighed in on the issue have basically saw nothing exceptionally wrong with FL's covid data, and all this thread has shown is that when saying nonsensical things in pursuit of wanting to justify believing nasty things about politicians from the other side, Democrats can be just as bad as Republicans.

Does it go too far to call the accusation DeSantis has done X and Y to the numbers, a Big Lie?
(putting it in terms red avs would understand)

I don't think it's the Democrats who are delusional about DeSantis, since it's one thing to exaggerate how bad the situation is in Florida, and another thing to say DeSantis had the "BeSt CoViD rEsPoNsE iN tHe CoUnTrY!"

Saying 'DeSantis has the best covid response in the country' is incorrect imo, but none of that excuses naked lies and mindless conspiracymongering.
