I actually didn't realize until now Eric Garcetti is still mayor. I thought he was going to be ambassador to India, but read that he apparently failed to get senate confirmation.

Anyway, seems like Bass hasn't created much enthusiasm?

I would imagine this is likely Caruso's high point and Bass will take over once more VBM is counted.

A week in and it seems like everything is playing out as everyone expected. Bass will probably pull away with an 8-10 point win. Koretz is getting demolished by Mejia, Gill is losing handily to Feldstein, and three of four establishment-backed City Council candidates will prevail.

Nicest surprise is at the County level, where Villaneuva has basically been loaded into a cannon and shot into outer space (plus Huggy Bear likely to go down in a supervisorial district tailor made for him).

Thank goodness. My old hometown really dodged a bullet there. Glad to see we don't elect law-and-order demagogues at the drop of a hat, like some other cities...

Of course this should have been a 20+ points blowout, so any margin Bass wins by will be too close, but I'll take the win regardless. Bass was a solid Rep and I'm sure she'll do her best as Mayor.

She is still going to have to deal with the crime issue. Either that, or she will lose in 2025/26.

They said rents gonna be inflated for the rest of the decade, so it's gonna be a tough time to get homelessness back to PrePandemic levels

They don't want to remodel the homeless shelters and make them into subsidy just think an average apartment was 800 then now it's 2400

I guess this is the best place to post this:

So KDL had a bad day yesterday. He tried to silently come back to the council after his 2-month hiatus, but protesters and the new majority on the council immediately took action. Then a video showed up after the meeting where KDL got confronted by unfriendly faces when engaging in outreach in Lincoln Heights, and ended up in a fight with an organizer.

Interesting the mayor already gets inaugurated in December here instead of January. Bass' departure from the House has the outgoing majority now reduced to 218-213.

If they give reparations to blks only that were born there it's not gonna solve the Homeless crisis 1)3 Rd of the people are carpetbaggers and more are coming , but Newsom wants to get the Nomination but he is a hypocrite, he begs for Carpetbagger for Abortion but along with the Latino state legislature wants to only give reparations to people born there that's why he is at 6 percent in the polls against Harris, but if Ds get a Filibuster proof, Natl Reparations and improve Newsom chances against Harris, Trifecta in 24 with OH, MT, Gallego and winning either TX or FL DeSantis and ordinary R without Rubio Little Havana on the ballot Rubio won by 10 in 16 and 4 against Crist and MEEKS in 2010 he is an ordinary white politician that wants tax cuts for rich and against Student Loan Discharge and he is an Ivy League Lawyer that gets money from Koch brothers, that's not even DeSantis money it's Koch brothers that favs 20 percent rate cuts

Gas prices are 3.32  we can swipe TX or FL with a
4)6 PVI like in 2008/12 split voting , VA, AZ, NC, FL and GA along with 269

There tends to be a quick turnaround around here between certification and inauguration, with early-mid December being common for November elections. Councilmembers in my town are typically sworn in after 2 weeks. The state legislature was sworn in a week ago even though there was still some uncalled races.

Also, it's not just Bass being sworn in but a new City Attorney, City Controller and 1/3 of the City Council. I doubt they most of them wanna sit around another 3 weeks just for Bass to sit around in DC (herself included), especially since they're all pushing the homelessness crisis as an urgent priority they can't waste time on (Bass already declared a local state of emergency and more power to build interim housing)

As expected, Krekorian reelected Council President unanimously. Absolutely no appetite within any faction to re-litigate that whole issue. He should be in the chair until his term expires in December 2024.

Then, de Leon shows his face in chambers. Krekorian immediately calls a ten minute recess as the crowd erupts (recess currently ongoing).

KDL - at the core of it - is dumber than a rock. Completely useless fool. Makes his rise to Senate President Pro Tem even more disappointing. I can't believe he ever attained such a position of power in government.

The new City Council Committee assignments are out, and it's an absolutely fascinating window into the mind of the Council President.

Of the junior members, I'd say biggest winners are probably Yaroslavsky and Hutt, and the biggest losers are probably Soto-Martinez and Park. McOsker and Hernandez both meh.

Today's the CD 6 special election to fill the seat of Former City Council president Nury Martinez who was involved in the tape scandal last October.

CD6 is in the central and east San Fernando Valley Bernie got nearly 70% there in 2020 and Rick Caruso carried it by a very narrow margin last year it's a heavily Hispanic district.

LAPPL (Los Angeles Police Union) dropped a few thousand in mailers to attack the two leading Progressive candidates Marco Santana and Antoniette Scully but have not backed a candidate. there are two major pro Police candidates Ilmeda Padilla and Marisa Alcaraz.

Marisa, Marco, Antoniette and Ilmeda are the 4 major candidates with shots of making the almost certainly inevitable runoff, I'm rooting for Antoniette but I think a runoff between Marco and either Marisa or Ilmeda is the most likely scenario. This should be really interesting though I'll be following the results of this race closely.

Won't be surprised if two dozen is the sum of all votes cast and CD6 craps out a Henry Cuellar type.

Well to be fair, LA made the right choice for Mayor last year. But yeah, this district has clearly been poisoned by copaganda.

Theirs a chance Marco makes it through with VBM as it's virtually a 3-way tie for second place and VBM traditionally favors progressive candidates, but it will be a steep climb, theirs are probably not that many ballots left 10k left at most. But yeah the fact that the two leading candidates are the only ones who received IEs is really concerning and awful :/.I have friends who worked on Isaac Kim, Marco Santana, and Antoniette's campaign it's such a shame the progressive block was so divided.

I didn't even realize there was a Council primary last night. It was fairly buried on the LA Times website yesterday and nothing about it today

Why did Cenk Uyghur from TYT support Caruso? Has he appeared on the other side of the horseshoe.
