If the 2000 election is two weeks after 9/11, Gore wins comfortably.

As the incumbent Vice President, Gore plays a very public and patriotic role in rallying the nation.  Of course, as President, Clinton leads the charge, however, the Democratic campaign, and Clinton, ensure that Gore is front and center as well in calling the nation to work together, and ensuring the nation, that as President, he, Gore, will launch an all out assault on the forces of terror and evil.

Gore adds New Hampshire and Florida to his total, and Tennessee is proud of their native son, and gives him their electoral votes as well.

On the other hand, if the 2000 election is two weeks after 9/11, and if Bush goes on the attack, and convinces the nation that the Democrats, under Clinton and Gore, have failed miserably in keeping America safe from the terrorists, then Bush wins comfortably.

Bush adds Iowa, New Mexico, Oregon, and Wisconsin to his totals.

Gore may also just get away with winning Missouri, and Ohio. But they would be very very small margin victories.

Gore landslide.  If 9/11 happened 2 weeks prior to a presidential election, the incumbent would always win, Democrat or Republican.  In this case, Gore being vice president, he is considered the incumbent.

The factor some are ignoring, is the media always sides with the Republicans unless underage gay sex is involved.

In that case:

He'd get somewhere around 85%.  Bush's worst region would be the South because African-Americans would vote maybe 50-50.
