I recall hearing in a documentary years ago that Lloyd Bentsen burn of Dan Quayle cost Bush approximately four million votes. However, other opinions do not reflect such a negative effect and to be honest, usually the VP debates are not as influencial in affecting the outcome. What do you think?

WA would've flipped to Bush and that one electoral vote from WV would've gone to Dukakis, but I don't think it would've changed anything significantly.

Supposedly the WV faithless elector was intended more to draw attention to the absurdity of the electoral college system than because the elector really preferred Bentsen to Dukakis.

It was the most overrated moment in the history of Presidential campaigns, period.

Nothing changes. Bentsen was largely ignored most of the cycle anyway.
